Only shows 40 servers in list

I'm trying to decide what is going on. At home on my LAN, I see hundreds, usually thousands of servers.

At college, I can only see about 35 servers. when I click on one, it lags out for a minute or two. When I try to join a server, sometimes it says to 'check my connection'. If I keep trying to join, after 3 or 4 tries it will work and I can play.

I THINK one or more of the ports is closed. I can possibly get IT to open up 2 or 3 different ports on the network, but I need to find out exactly what port it is.

I'm just getting bored playing in the same servers over and over.

also, how do I check to see what version I'm running? I installed what I thought was a 1.41 patch, but when I start BF2 I see a different number in the top right hand corner of my screen (its in yellow if that helps).

hmmm maybe your college (if it is on campus you are doing this) have tried to block out alot of gaming related internet use?

The IT department is retarded. They said if I gave them ports to open they would do it for me. I wanted them to set up a DMZ on my IP, but they are afraid of hacking.... Who the hell is going to WANT to hack into my computer, and what am I going to lose?

well first make sure u have the latest patch..so to check, go into ur bf2 menu and in the corner u should look for the number:

1.1.2965-797.0 if u see that then u r updated and the problem lies elsewhere

if u see something else (most likely 1.1.2965-795.0) u have an old patch and need to repatch
