BF2 keeps crashing back onto my desktop when I create/retrieve account

I have been playing BF2 for a couple of months. I bought the platinum version which includes BF2 , SF and Armored fury. Yesterday, i installed some map packs and some mods for single player mode. After playing several rounds of single player games, I decided to play over the net cos I was bored playing with bots. Okay as far as history goes, I never had any problems. The thing suddenly happened right after playing SP mode, I logged in with my account on multiplayer, the game just crashes and goes back to my desktop.I tried logging on over again and again. I have read a lot of other solutions posted on forums (spent a good couple of hours), and I have done the following,,

    - Uninstalled and reinstalled BF2
    - Updated my punkbuster manually from the site itself
    - Did not install map packs

The same thing happens After reinstalling , it starts afresh. Whenever I click retrieve my account ‘..The game just crashes and goes back to deskstop. Even when I try to create a new account , it just crashes and goes back to desktop. I have reinstalled 4 times and whenever I try to retrieve my account , it just disappears and goes back to my desktop. I even tried running gamespy and the game at the same time.(I was desperate). Is there anyway around this? Was I banned cos there wasn’t any error messages nor punkbuster messages? Cant be a hardware issue as it used to run smoothly. I checked for spyware and viruses but found nothing. Any help is appreciated:salute:

While uninstalling, it asks you if you like to keep your settings and profiles. Did you?

Well I don't think it is a PB issue because it doesn't kick you until you join a game and your having problems just getting into the game.

Do you use a widescreen and if you do have you reset the resolution so that it plays in a widescreen resolution?

Either way try right clicking bf2 icon > properties > go into the "target" line and add "+szx 800 +szy 600" at the end.

to me it sounds like a problem when I messed with my resolutions I had a similiar effect. If that does not work, try reading the sticky above your topic thread about widescreens and look into the video.con files. It's the only thing that rings any bells in my head at the moment unless you want to format... Formatting cleans everything =D Lol

        Goodluck to you.

Ps. to link_2007 - Do you fry eggs and bacon on your P4 when your playing games?

Or something funky in the registry but safest thing for a rookie to do is reformat like you said. Bytheway, thats no insult, I'm a rookie too. I won't touch the registry then again I may have once alrready on some other computer... Did I mention it died?

Hmmm... Well no harm can be done in formatting. It will only make everything go faster and if you want that stupid in game help commander to STFU, DL a script and use it. I noticed that half the crap he says is like cut out which is a fecking miracle... It never shuts up. One of the reasons I h8 reinstalling bf2 if it ever needs be done...

Oh yeah, by the way - Try updating your video drivers and out of curiousity what OS are you using?

dude, try this before you reformatt

if it loads for Sing player then i doubt the resolution is a prob.
just make sure you get it all out, then reinstall.

                    besta luck

Because you OC'd the hottest CPU offered by intel not to mention it was already very high on the stock clock from the factory... Unless you've got like water cooling or something, I'd imagine that thing would get hot...

So my theory is you must have a good reason to do this, maybe your trying to cut back on electricity with the pricing these days and use your computer to cook your food?

In any case I like my yoke broke and bacon not too soft but a bit crispy, ok?:p

Dude, you'r totally right about that lol.. You did your homework..

Don't know how many watt's, but definitly hot.. With my stock cooling the temp where of the scale lol.. Right now i'm cooling it with a Hyper 48.. Nice cooler though, 48 idle.. 55 stressed.. In summer 60 > 64 stressed.. At stock speed the temp was almost the same, so it tuned it a bit higher to reduce some lagg.. :)

Im getting a new rig in december, don't wich parts yet though.. I will keep the energy consumption in mind..

One broken egg with bacon, crispy and not to soft comming up.. :salute:
