Map data is loaded quicker off the hard drives and into the RAM or CPU, thus, the level loads faster!

now does that have to do with the amount of space or how fast the harddrive reads?

How fast it reads. They are relatively fast hard disks, but i put them in RAID0 (Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks)

A RAID 0 (also known as a stripe set or striped volume) splits data evenly across two or more disks (striped) with no parity information for redundancy. It is important to note that RAID 0 was not one of the original RAID levels and provides zero data redundancy. RAID 0 is normally used to increase performance, although it can also be used as a way to create a small number of large virtual disks out of a large number of small physical ones.

RAID 0 is also used in some gaming systems where performance is desired and data integrity is not very important. However, real-world tests with games have shown that RAID-0 performance gains are minimal, although some desktop applications will benefit

I certainly noticed a difference.

Don't even think about running software off an external. They are as slow as f*ck. You need a nice internal SATA2 16mb Cache 7200rpm drive. Get a Samsung or Western Digital.

Yea, that's very, very slow. I didn't even know desktops had those speeds. Must be a laptop right?

tanks man, hey gonna update me a new HD christmas time, any suggestions, i got a dell 4700, 3gig memory , pentium 4, right now got 80gigHD scsi if i remember right.

You are running SCSI? Hmm...well...don't think that dimension model has SCSI in it. You might want to take this conversation over to the support/techcenter area.

But if you can, go with a Seagate 500GB SATA2. But, I'm not 100% sure if a Dimension 4700 has SATA2 on board. Again, start asking questions in the support threads.

welp im not very computer smart, just layman at it, but i was wrong, its a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 80GB Hard Drive
(Serial ATA-150, 7200 RPM, 8MB - MPN: 6Y080M0)

well only reason i asked here was because we were talkin about it, but i understand, no problem. i'll ask later before i buy.
