Game freezes + scratchy high pitch sound

I reinstalled the game yesterday and now I experience a new problem. I'm able to play smoothly for something like ten minutes or so before the game suddenly locks up and a horrible high pitch scratchy sound starts and forces me to reboot my machine manually. Where did it come from? I've never had this problem before I reinstalled.

Help would be appreciated, thanks :yay:

I have this very same problem except for the sound part. Game runs smooth for some time - then freezes. However, it seems I don't have this problem in offline game.

My temps are fine so they're not to blame. I got latest pb updates. I've tried disabling firewall (F-Secure Client Security 7) and it won't help either.

          My hardware:
M2N-SLI Deluxe, Athlon 64 X2 @ 4200+, 2 GB RAM (memtest runs with no errors), Sapphire Ati Radeon X1950XT (got latest Catalyst drivers).

Wouldn't think so... Played Bioshock with no problems (1280x1024 res, maxed graphics).

It happened to me when i used my overclocked 7600gt graphics card. It worked fine OCed in every game apart from Bf2 where it would lock up and produce a very high pitched scratchy/beeping noise through my speakers.
I just had to stop overclocking. May have been temps although they were ok when i stressed the card.

Point is that I never OCed any of my hardware, yet. I have ATITool running in background in order to keep my X1800XT from overheating and it worked just fine before I reinstalled. I might give reinstalling another shot then.

Yep. It's not the temperatures, just the hardware not being able to handle the clock rates. It does it for me if I jack the FSB up too much, or the GPU core clock. Having mixed ram severely aggravates it, I had to drop 200MHz on CPU just to get a stable boot.

You need to turn off things like Spread Spectrum and Speedstep in the BIOS (don't disable Speedstep if you're on a laptop).

This happens to me sometimes in BF2, but it happens all the freaking time in Rainbow Six: Vegas. I can't even play the game.
At least BF2 works sometimes. At least it did before this Punkbuster update. Now I've got about six shiny coasters if you count the BF2142 DVD, because that game is borked, too.

It seems the new Punkbuster update has brought freezing problems... Judging by what I've read on other forums.

Oh and wouldn't the fact that my BF2 does not crash in offline game support this? I don't have PB enabled when offline gaming against bots?
