How can I be a good commander?

Well we have all been on the team with the worst commander, and the best one ever. My best commander was on a Karkand 64, his name was TigermanUK, if you are reading this, great job. I was wondering how I could become a better commander.
    Right now I use:
    1. VOIP- with a friendly voice and explain why I chose that order. (I try not to spam)
    2. Use all my assets.
    3. Don't fight unless they come to destroy my assets.
    4. Accept all requests that can be filled.
Now I know there has got to be more that I can do. What do you do as commander that makes your squad listen better and possible even use teamwork

I've read the guides in the Tips section, now I want some of you to add your 2 cents :)

    Thank you.

Practise. It's sounds like a cliche, and it is. But it's also the truth.

Originally as a newb commander I would spam the chat with every troop I saw on the ground.

Then I got better and started to spot the guys going for one of our flags. and not every guy just randomly sitting air the airfield waiting for a vehicle.

It's things like that, and knowing who to drop the vehicles to - The guy who want to destroy the assets when no one is requesting one, or the squad who is looking to capture a flag far away and quickly.

But there are some ground rules to follow

1 Scan before you drop a UAV - no one like to see a UAV flying around and not spotting something only to see a flag go Grey.

2 Scan before you drop Arty - Same applies as above, arty not taking out troops is bad arty.

3 Send your supplies to your Tanks, first and foremost. If they do there proper role which is infantry support, then they should be fine with the repairs they receive.

4 Do not send supply crates to your own arty, a Spec-ops can only blow up two pieces of arty without being re-supplied, and you can only fix one. do the math, you're giving him the ammo to blow up your last artillery piece.

5 Constantly give your squads new orders once their objectives have been met. If they aren't given new orders they won't be working at their full potential.

Likewise, if they are not going after that flag/order, give them the orders to where they are headed. It may seem like a superfluous action, but if the squad feels your are interacting with them, then they will be more likely to help you out.

Please note, that not all squads are interested in what your attempting to do which is win, nor see your objectives. So don't get frustrated.

Always right click spot the red dots after you scan... I h8 it when noob commanders don't understand that but I was there myself.

Every so often spot everyone not under the UAV so people have a general idea where the enemy is.

I never issue out orders unless the SL is absolutely nuts to have one for some reason... I just tell em "your order is to win mofo."

Type out where straggler enemys are to the whole team. Not everyone has the ability to hear your godlike voice over VOIP unfortunately. Then again you can spot em too :)

At the beginning of the round spam "GO GO GO" for a few minutes for a morale boost Lol

When the UAV runs out spam enemy spotted over the area until UAV is ready again, may not spot many but any will help. Likewise if a squad is taking a flag and you have no scan or UAV readily available, enemy spot the area every few seconds so the squad can capture the flag easier.

commanding is tough, because it totally depends on your team...you could be the best commander ever and spot everyone necessary and fill all requests, but if nobody stops spamming grenades to go defend a point, you're not going to win.

You need to be aware every second what's going on everywhere on the map. UAV and spotting the enemy is critical, dropping supplies too. Stay away from the aircrafts, you can use the rest of the vehicles to defend a flag for example, unless somebody from your team requests it. You need to be able to defend flags if your team is busy or they don't follow your orders. Of course you can't lose focus off your commanding duties. If you can't handle both, don't bother becoming a commander.

P.S. Stay away from servers that kick you out for killing somebody while defending a flag. If commanders weren't supposed to fight back up to a certain extend, EA/DICE would've found a way to disable their weapons while being commanders.

What I do when I command is, I stay in the back or near middle with sniper and pick off the sneaking infantry(or C4 sneaking cars on roads). You gotta use all your assets and give UAV to not just one flag but try putting it in the middle with another flag is if your teammates are also assaulting that flag as well, so you can get both uav and help both squads out. I hate newbs you just randomly places UAV on a flag where some of the uav is hitting nothing but out of bounds area.

Dont spot ppl on the middle of the map with no friendlies around. Also theres no need to spot the same guy 5 times. That will get u TKed

Does anybody know how long does the enemy show on the map when you spot him once?

Actually, I think you have most of the points covered already. I'd have to add only a couple minor points.

I don't just spot enemies on the map but tell my team which flags are open for the taking and what, if anything, is on its way towards them.

I tend to use the tactical orders as well - Blow this, Repair this, etc.

Stay alert! Nothing worse as a commander than replaying that scene from Platoon of the enemy blowing up the command tent (capping the base you're commanding from).

In addition, I sometimes play a Spec Ops and rig my "home base" with c4. With the entire map visible, it's easy to see who's coming up from where and when to detonate.

Ok, thanks for the tips. Can't put it in tips because I'm requesting help. I'll be sure to try these out when I get my computer fixed.

                            Keep on adding!!

keep reporting enemy activities(or as much as you can) when your UAV is charging.

everytime i scored a kill because my commander was doing that for me, i alwasy say thanks to him/her.
