    Many Problems!!!

    Hi all!

I recently purchased BF2. After playing for a while I started to realize static kind of noises. I don't know what to do.
    -I have the bf2 patch
-I only hear this noise when I'm in the main menu/when victory music is playing/when in Jets or loud vehicles. Not with gunshots or anything.
-I have some garbage sound driver like Sigmatel or something.
-I don't hear similar noises in any other game.
Should I update my drivers? I can't find exactly what audio driver I'm using, and I don't know where to go to get drivers, besides Dell, which has the version I have now.
    ----------
Another problem I have is that I cannot bind crouch to left shift. It wont let me at all. It says that the button is being used in helicopter controls, (which it is not). The funny thing is that I can bind left shift to prone without it saying that it is being used, but I can't for crouch.

    Cheers and thanks in advance!

Go in the audio options in the game and select hardware supported effects instead. Updating the sound driver is not a bad idea.
As far as binding the left shift to prone, right now you probably have that key assigned to something else. Find out what it is and assign different key for that action, and after that you can assign the left shift to anything you want.

Shift is assigned to run, you need to change/remove that before using shift your way.

As for your sound, use the lowest possible setting in BF2 (software low I believe).

make sure you have the sound setting in the bf2 menu set to hardware if your using a sound card. as for shift you have to rebind run to a different key before you can change it.

I unbound everything that has left shift in the controls menu. You see, I can assign left shift to anything but crouch. Its quite odd.

I'm going to try to mess around with the audio settings ingame, and if that does not work, I'm going to try to find what audio driver I have.

Whoops double postage . I have another problem. When I start up bf2, it wants me to download highway tampa or whatever its called. The thing is, I already downloaded it. Or at least I think I did. I downloaded and installed 'BF2_Highway_Tampa_Update' yet it keeps on asking to get it now.

That's just EA's way of thanking you..!

As for shift, are you trying to assign it to right shift? and left shift something else? I'm pretty sure it's sets just as one.

I knew it was just a friendly gesture! I'm just trying to assign left shift to crouch. Is there someway I can do it by editing a file in program files/ea/etc...?

                  Edit Controls.con in My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0001

You may have to make the file read-only for it to work.

Haha! It worked. I had to read that info a few times because I had to edit the file almost completely. The funny thing is that when I finally made crouch left shift, the options menu in bf2 said that crouch was assigned to z :). But when I'm playing shift=crouch. So it worked. I made the file read only so the game can't restore the settings. Thanks all!
