Door gunning

I am wondering about the door guns in the various transport helos. Is the US Blackhawk chaingun more powerful than the Mi-17 .50 caliber MG? And also, are door guns more for psychological effect (making people run for the hills) or do they actually do anything, 'cause I've been door gunning for a while and the only time I got someone was when I was stationary on the ground blasting a guy at point blank range. Or is it the pilot's fault: for being to clumsy or flying to high, etc? Any door gunning strategies or whatever will be appreciated. Thanks

OK I'm gonna reply in your thread since nobody else wants to. I can tell that the door gunning interests you a lot since every other post you have is about that. Anyway, when the game first came out, the blackhawk's minigun was the most powerfull gun in the game right next to the plane guns, in other words far more powerful than the 50 cal on the other armies transport hellos. With the patches that followed the damage that the minigun used to do got decreased dramatically. The reason being was because EA/DICE wanted better balanced armies. Now both the minigun and the 50 cal are pretty much equal. Both of them are not very effective when you are the gunner and somebody else is piloting the hello or driving the vehicle with the mounted 50 cal. However when stationary, both of them are very deadly and accurate. As much as I like the 50 cal mounted on the jeeps/pickups/tanks, on a transport chopper I prefer the minigun over the 50 cal because I think it has a little bit better accuracy. Damage wise they are about same, maybe the minigun does little bit more damage, I'm not 100% sure on this one, but they are pretty close.

we are still in mourning because of the nerfing of the blackhawk and the ineffectiveness of the other transport helos.

Yes, vlade, I do like door gunning quite a bit, lol. Thanks for the info. You have to be close to the ground for them to work tho right? In other words, you need a pilot that's willing to expose themselves to small arms fire.

Heh, just fly in an attack helo and rape infantry with the chain gun :)

It's blast radius is mega-uber and you're protected from hand held weapons (apart from the M95 and AT launchers). Plus, you've got a handy little guided missile that can kill anything in the game with 1 hit :)

Yea but door gunning is cooler. You can cover a squad while they're getting out and it just looks cool.

If you really want to see how weak it is, create a local server and just set the BH down near a vehicle and shoot it. Then get out and hop in the vehicle.

It's rather depressing.

you cant do that even if you aim at someone who is prone I bet it will take 3 seconds before they die. Its like it's shooting air soft bullets.

if the black hawk is moving.... then you must lead the target the opposite direction u are going to compensate for the moving forward.

So if you are aiming at a target, shoot a little back behind the target and the bullets will lead into the target. However this is very hard to do because the guns are so weak.

the same principle applies to the attack helicopter gun if its flying fast a direction.

I sometimes on wake land a black hawk next to enermy base and sit in the mini gun and rape the base however 1 anti tank missile to your gun kills you, and snipers love to kill you, black hawks attract alot of attention as easy pray.

thanks, I guess the mini gun isn't that good, but I killed a bunch of guys the other day from an Mi-17 in Songhua Stalemate in the door gun. My pilot my flying low over the swamp flats and I took out like five guys on the fifty cal.

We had a cool blackhawk rape squad on mashtuur. The guns are good if you have a steady pilot and the gunners know what theyre doing. I had the privilege (sp?) of being in theyre squad and repairing the blackhawk and i even got a midair shotgun kill against a sniper.
