I'd invest a little more cash into the graphics card and make sure your comp has a powerful enough powersupply since that acts like the "Heart" of the system that supplies the power (blood) to everything!

I recommend no less than a 7900GT at the current low prices.

Also if your going to buy a XP OS, make sure its XP Pro and not home its not but a little more and gives you a few added things.

Why ? Whats the difference between Windows XP home and pro editions ? Also im not really after really high definition graphics. I just want a computer that can run Battlefield 2 and pretty decent settings. After all, the only thing that matters in a video game is its Gameplay, am I right or wrong ?

Pro gives more features like remote desktop which is always nice to have..and it isn't but a few bucks more so why not... as for playing the game with decent settings well I can tell you from experience of using vid cards from the GeforceFX cards to a current 8800GTX that the game gets vid lag on a single 6800GT... I even ran dual 6800GT's in SLI and it still had a slight show of vid lag mostly in high vegetation areas, smoke, arty drops etc.. a 6800Ultra and up would play it on Medium settings and not give vid lag but again it also depends on your power supply so make sure its able to support the whole system not just wattage but "Rails" or AMPS to the hardware. Thats why I suggested at least a 7900GT which should hold you pretty tight for a while and with current prices its worth it. And if your able to go at least 250$ for a card you might even look at some places for a good deal on a 8600GT which will hold you over if one day you get Vista and any DirectX10 games.

My list of cards I've run with BF2 are:

        6600GT
        6800GT
        Dual 6800GT's SLI
        6800Ultra
        Dual 6800Ultra's SLI
        7800GT
        7900GTX
        Dual 7900GTX's SLI
        8800GTX

        been there done that :salute:

Yeah, try to spring for a better GPU, like the 7900 or radeon 1950. If you have the dough, spring for the 8600 gts or 8800 gts. Also, what processor you getting? Intel is gonna drop prices on the core 2 duo by the end of the year, so you might want to wait.

Well u see, the reason why I wanna get the not-that-great system specs is because my dad(He's the one who buys the computer stuff)is very cheap, and complains if he spends to much money for someone else, and I feel bad for it. So unless u know a better video card that is a bit more expensive than the Geforce 6600,ill stick with the specs I want right now. Can it at least run BF2 on 800x600 with Medium-High terrain detail settings ? Im also very eager to play this game. Im bored with the games I have, and Bf2 is too much for my current computer.

Drop a gigabyte of ram if needed, don't touch the bloody 8600GTS RIPOFF EDITION™, and buy a better card: ATI Radeon x1950 Pro. Cheaper and better by miles.

Then mow some yards and buy the extra 1GB. Simple as. Trust me, I built every single PC I have had on a budget.

i doubt the 6600 (not 6600gt right?) can play med/high settings..well maybe at 800x600, but its risky. my brother has a 6600gt and he plays a mix of settings but it looks like med/low with some high (such as geometry that dont relaly affect ur fps a whole lot and he still gets a few fps drops here and there and its not really pleasant.

how much are u currently paying for the 6600? u can get a 6800gt which is a pretty nice card for under $100 now.

Where does it say the ATI Radeon X1950 is cheaper than the Geforce 6600 ? I found the 6600 for 95 bucks at CompUSA. I know, to u it seems like alot. I dunno if my dad has a Newegg account or something.

Ok I found a good card on Newegg. The Geforce 7600GT for only 100 bucks. Will that run BF2 pretty good ?

P.S: Sorry for the double post.

                    I agree with " Camperstriker "

Ati X1950 Pro will handle fine for what you wont, get 1GB ram, and when u get say another £30 get another 1GB, but with the money you save on the card you want, to the X1950 Pro, you'd save £30 or somthing.!

everyone here has tried to tell you that a 6600 will play the game but its going to be horrible unless your on low settings and low resolution. Tell your dad how it is or cut a few yards or something and give him some extra cash to help out with that upgrade.

If u say that can run BF2 on high settings, smoothly, then whats the point of going any higher. BF2 is pretty much the only game I wanna play right now, and ill be addicted to it for a while, like I was with BF1942.

what brand are you looking at?

BFG, XFX, eVGA are good brands...

also watch the features some have vs others when they are only 10-20$ difference cause that could mean alot as in grades of the brands as well.. kinda like when you go to walmart and they have Pioneer stuff vs Crutchfield's Pioneer stuff.. a major difference in "Grades" of the brands.
