Yeah so i log on today get my firewall poping up asking if i want to allow pnkbstrB.exe you know random name i said no thanks, so i go to join my sever and boom.
Im assuming i should allow it to run? but its an exe. so that means it will be running in my backround 24/7...

This happened in 2142. It runs in the background as system services. They basically ruined BF2 with this. You need to disable Firewalls, and any AV services that prevent communication.
Stupid people at evenbalance ruined 2142 with this, people complained back then, now they ruin BF2 with this.
wow im glad im not the only one that this is happening to. I got the same thing this afternoon and ever since ive been having some problems. ( I did allow them to run) Sometimes I can get on and play for an hour with no issue sometimes only 5 minutes. Also every single time I try to connect to a server it will say "connection to server lost" and then when I try the second time it connects without a problem.

na my firewall can let me chose if i want to run it or not run it. I choose not to run it because off hand i dident know what it was untill i looked it up.

Punk Buster Services are a different matter. Most firewalls hook interface functions to filter communication and basic IO. PB Services uses unorthodox interfaces which are usually safeguarded with complete blocking of the communication. Even if I disabled my software firewall Zone Alarm, or add PB Services to any of the allow lists, my router will still cause the error Missing Key Packets.

Also you may want to disable the services whilst you are not playing BF2. The services have some questionable File IO activity in their compiled code.
well i dont know about you but i do also have zonealarm and all i did was allowed and rememberd the .exe and it works 100% fine im gaming as we speak.
If I can't play anymore because these ****ing idiots can't figure out how to stop hacking, I won't be happy. I can't join a server without the getting massive massive lag spikes, causing the game to lock up for up to 20 seconds. If I disable the services, I can't join the servers. This is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen.
I'm having some big problems too. I get lag spikes every 10 - 30 seconds now. I also get a network connection error a lot when I try joining servers. I've tried everything to fix it. I've got a good internet connection, and a good computer, so I know it's definately not me.
The game is unplayable.
I'd rather have the occasional hacker than not being able to play the game, whatsoever.
I noticed that norton had to allow punkbuster before when i was on it, but it didnt seem to make any difference. I still get 'lag spikes' and if im flying its a joke as my jet changes direction which usually leaves me flying into land/sea but i still get theres every 50-60 seconds as i did before this punkbuster thing.
