    The Macro Question/s

    Hey guys,

Can someone please explain the following:

    What exactly is a Macro?
How are they used to benifit players on the battlefield?

Why i ask is that i have come up against players that seem to be exceptional on IO maps eg: 65 kills 4 deaths, i have often commented to friends that it just doesn't seem normal and yes the hack issue has been raised. Many of my fellow BF2 gaming friends often say these people are probably using Macros.

Any help in answering these questions is appreciated!

    Cheers

    Re: The Macro Question/s

A macro is a program of some sorts that allows a player to bind multiple actions to one key. A player could bind this key to throw down a medic pack, then switch to their assault weapon. Another may set one up so it hits a key 5 times per second (maybe useful with the TV missile).

They generally benefit player by allowing them to do movements that are either improbable for the average human to do or make it easier to do. I recall many people calling Volx a macro whore and judging by his movement in a few videos I would have to agree.

Most macros won't have an impact on the players performance compared to "hack" programs. But they can make a few things easier to do. In my opinion, most macros are used by people who "suck" at the game. Granted some macros are acceptable in my opinion because they provide control that should have been in the game (i.e. free look in a jet).

i think the only way you can macro now is with a Logitech G15 keyboard but i could be wrong. there might be a few abstract programs that still work.

maybe they did change it but i thought it works. there should be a G15 thread in the support section but im sure someone will chime in with a definite answer.

Thats not too uncommon really. Ive put up some pretty ridiculous scores on IO before and I dont consider myself a great player. Sometimes I just get in a groove and kills become very easy. Its a lot of luck involved also. You cant really look at someones score and instantly assume they are cheating..

The last time I had a round like that on IO was this screeny here..

I was using the m95 which made this particularly uncommon but like I said the kills just seemed to come easy. Usually I have about a 2-1 KDR. Macros dont seem to be near as common as they were before. It was getting pretty bad there for awhile, that might be why your friends mentioned them.

You will also see people using auto-fire macros. Sometimes, people with superfast pistol shots are a sign someone might be using a macro (sometimes, so don't charge off making accusations). But because guns like the AK can get out of hand in full auto, people will sometimes run a macro on single shot to optimize the fire rate of a the AK into bursts in single shot. This allows them to get very precise shots quickly without too much deviation.

Are these the same people that will say "Ammo Here" 4 times in a row when they only throw down 1 pack?

I don't think so. That seems like more of a glitch in the game, like when I through two flash bangs though I only hit the button once.

I see what you mean, my grenades do that all the time. Since I never hear what I am saying while medic or support and don't pay attention to the text, I never would notice if it happened to me.

i just discovered that in the new zboard software update the macro feature has started working for bf2. you can make simple key macros but its pretty much got to be something you can do by hand in the first place like throwing a nade then going back to your main weapon, your only going to be able to do stuff like that.

its not much of an advantage, at least not on the zboard. even if you make a single shot macro the bf2 engine can only recognize a set minimum delay between button presses (the rate of fire can only go so fast and then your button presses wont register with the game ). you can use the mouse trigger in semi auto just as fast if not faster than the macro.

Macros are essentially key binds, that allow you to enact multiple actions within a single keystroke.

Back when it was possible to jump, and dive while shooting, people used to use macros that would loop the traditional jump, prone, crouch, jump, prone, crouch necessary to constantly keep them floor humping to avoid being an easy target.

I'm going to sound as if I'm on a high horse here, but...

A good player can really shine, if hes playing against a large number of bad or average players. It's not uncommon for a good player to rack up six or seven kills before each death (Usually to a grenade or claymore) on an Infantry Only server. I've had hundreds of rounds that have ended with me netting 80+ kills with less than 20 deaths. Situational Awareness, coupled with the use of cover can lead to dozens of easy kills before you're eventually overrun. Especially if you're using a powerful gun. (AK-101 for instance)

Alarm bells do ring if this person has only been on the server for five minutes, and has already racked up 30+ head-shot kills with an SVD, but thats not a macro, but an aim-bot that is assisting this particular person. Such downloadable skill is pathetic. We traditionally ostracize such people here. (My signature should attest to that.)

Just please... always err to the benefit of the doubt; lest you find yourself in a continuous loop of accusing people of cheating. That person who is constantly racking up 100-200 points per round may actually deserve them.

When i play sniper i have really low k:d ratios. Me and my l9a61 or w.e. had a 3:1 at some IO map because i kept sniping the same players (not that good) as they where revied. they where in the middle of the street. for some reason i stayed hidden and no counter snipers went after me.
