need help with assault mod!

i just downloaded the BF2 assault mod and i dont know how to play it like,i mean start it

You will find a shortcut @ your desktop..

the short cut just takes me to the assault mod files

If all else fails:
Start the regular BF2 game.
Go to the community tab after you log in, then to the custom games tab.
Click on the mod you want to start, then hit activate.
