I don't mind the promotion, but I'm not sure I earned it yet

I'm probably one of the worst BF2 (or any FPS) players on the internet. I have a million excuses, with my best ones being that my ping times usually suck (100+), that I get lots of lag, and that I didn't grow up playing these types of games. There wasn't even any such thing as a home computer until I was in High School and the first FPS games came out after I graduated from college. Basically, my role in these games is to provide kills for other players, I guess.

I'm OK with all that. I guess I must be, since I keep playing. I just do what I can to help my team win. So, I wasn't too sad that after 47 hours of playing I was barely a corporal. It looked like I had a long 407 days to wait until I would make sergeant.

Or so I thought...

Last night, I was playing a game on a ranked server, trying to do my best to help my team by capturing some flags. I cap'd a flag and I get a big splash screen that says I've been promoted to Sergeant! What?? How can that be, I need 2500 points to make Sergeant and the last I checked I had around 1200.

I figured it was a mistake and that I really didn't get promoted.

Then today, I went and checked my stats online:

What is going on? If you add up my team score plus combat score and take off a few for teamkills, I should have a global score of about 1300. It says I have a global score of 3398!

How is this possible? Can you get bonus points for playing a certain number of hours? Can you get bonus points awarded by an admin or something? Am I just confused about how the global score is calculated?

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrlled that I got another weapon unlock. I finally selected the DAO-12, because the only weapon I can hit anybody with is a shotgun. I may actually work my way up to a KDR of .25 if I keep working at it!

Trust me your not the worst...theres others worse out there *cough* me *cough* yeah i jsut heard about it this morning EA gave out 2000 free points to all players playing during some stat outage thing. anyways yeah i was really happy/surprised when it seemed every kill i got promoted

Unclesmonkey, as long as you think it's fun to play, that's all that matters.

if you think some1 hacked your acnt, change the pswd. or start another accnt.

btw, i'm a few years younger than you are. fun game isn't it?

YIKES! Now I can be known as a bad player AND a clueless forum poster. Yahoo.

I swear I did use the search button before starting this thread! And, I didn't just search this forum. I searched everything I could find on google.

Clearly, I didn't use the right search words. I've been playing the game a lot lately, but I haven't been following any of the news on the forums. Since my ranking is so lowly, I didn't really even notice that there was a stats outage. Only now, after embarrassing myself by starting this thread, do I see the news about the automatically awarded points. In my defense, I do believe this is very recent news, isn't it?

At least my post didn't say "zomgg uberlee promoted 3 times!! wuts happeningg?". ;-)

I use search, but the results are nothing close to what problem I have. lol But yeah, a game should be fun and not about how good a person is. I forget that every so often, but overall it's fun. As for the promotes, I made Corporal in apparently 20 min of rated server time so I'm just as confused as you are, yet not complaining either. lol

Hey Waltersbg, if you think that you haven't deserved the promotion just email EA to take the 2000 points away, even better to erase your stats completely.

Just kidding man, you probably suck not because you are older than the rest of the players, but because at 1K points you are still a noob and you haven't learned all the tricks yet. Little practise, few more thousand points and you'll see that you can play better.

I had to laugh at that! Dont worry about getting pounded on watlersbg or as our younger generation of players would say- "pwned" With time you'll get better and learn some of the tricks to getting the drop on the opfor first. Welcome to BF2!

I'm not the best player either, i'm better in some areas than others though. But I do have one tip. The points are easy to rack up when your actually running around capturing flags and just helping out in general. Furthermore, I found if you really wanna get lots of points in the begining you should play as a Medic. I love playing as a sniper but I never get nearly as many points as when I'm a medic passing out health packs, reviving people and killing a few in the meantime. Playing commander is also a great way to rack up buku points. Just dont forget to continuously drop supplies, keep the uav up and scan and spot out enemies in between.

yeh me too. i actually read the post about the compensation. a bit of reading goes a long way:nod:

but anyway, to the OP, if you enjoy playing the game regardless of how many points you get then fine, as thats what a game should be- fun. i mean if it wasnt fun people wouldnt play them, would they?
you are just simply playing the game for what its intended for, to meet the requirements of the customer when bored!:)
