Crash to desktop is driving me mad :( :( :( :( :(

Hi All is am new to the forum and i am allready looking for help. I have searched the forum and nothing seems to work.

My pc crashes to desktop @ 62% every time no matter i try to do!

I have tried so far
- Reinstall BF2
-Re Patch BF2
-Reinstall Lastest ATI drivers
-Reinstall Sound Drivers
-Error Check my hard disk
-Delete my profile stuff.
-Copy over my flat mate's bf2
-Turn off my dual monitor.

It the first time i have tried to play it since last year. I even lost my profile and reformated my pc.

My Spec is

P4 D950 @3.4
Can remeber the ram (2gig)
P5WD2-E Premium mobo
Single 360gig harddisk
ATI X800 XT
dual 17 Hp Monitors

If you have any ideas that would be great

have you tried deleting your cache folder?

Try lowering your texture settings. 62% is where the textures start to load.

Have u checked your GPU temp? & your CPU temps?

also how big is your PSU ? if you've upgraded alot from your origional rig u might need a larger PSU. Just some thought

I had same problem, only it wasnt 62% it was more like 20% of the time, it would just like "puff the magic dragon" POOF its gone, no taskbar , just POOF, like you had shut it down in a blink.

anyway lotsa searching & checks, i determined i needed a bigger PSU, fixed my problem, i had a 350W & went upto a 470W 5something peek.

reason i say about heat, well it run great forever & it did it too me once, well i started check & my GPU was runnin a little hot, i made some adjustments on my tower, Blew out the dust, and it hasnt happend anymore.

Try lowering your texture settings. 62% is where the textures start to load.

Yeah, the majority of that is of lightmaps, not just standard textures though.

Stick the Textures and Lighting settings to Low and try again.

I get to Geometries at 62%. It takes ages at that point because geometry is one of the few settings I have on high.

What resolution is your game set at? Set it to 800x600 60hrz and try it. It's a graphics issue I would bet.

Got all my video settings on high except for antilazing<not sure how to spell it
mine loads quick, mine used to load slow as krap, but I upgraded my ram & PSU and everything is runnin & loading much quicker.

if i remember right my resolution is 1024x768@60Hz

every time I defrag my crash to desktops seem a lot less frequent.

ahhh thanks lads, i have allready turned down all my settings, updated my punk buster(had that problem before) I have a hyper 580w power supply so i think thats fine. My CPU is sitts @ 58c(but it allways has with my Artic Cooler 7) and my gpu sits @ 30c(with my artic cooler)

i will try defragging my hard disk!

It's not, it's textures & lightmaps. The messages are off, at that point it finishes loading "geometries".

Its Vista that is causing the problem. Lower your textures to med and see what happens :-)

I got it working!!, i put a new sound card in and its working fine now. All i need to do now is start playing again and get my rank back up again!
