    SU-35, F-15 Bomb sites

just wondering what is the ideal method of bombing with these 2 planes.

I've had limited success with just placing the crosshairs over the appearing circles on the map and firing the missle.. sometimes it would take out the target, sometimes not. I find that if I hold the cursor over the target for a few seconds, when the guys says "i'm locked in" usually by that time the pilot either turns away from the target, or the target goes off screen.

Most any decent bomber pilot likes to fly at max/near max speed to avoid stingers, and increase mobility to avoid fighter jets. That being said, it is somewhat difficult to get "locked on" to a target. I find that 9/10 times when my guy gets a lock, after I fire a missle, the plane is traveling too fast and overshoots the target, or does a hard bank left or right, and my guided missle now slams into a mountain instead.

If the pilot slows down to provide longer sight pictures of the target.. he usually gets blasted from the sky.

Which is the best method of striking these ground targets?

also, why does the lock not work on aerial targets?

    cheers.

Your pilot is ****ty, get a better pilot. Gunning in a bomber is point and click (unless you're trying to take out helis).

The Best method of bombing is gaining high alitutude and dive bombing. This way your bombs leave at an almost 90 degree angle instead of the 45 degree angle which would happen if you fly straight and level.

If you must do bombing runs on level flying(Making hte bomb leave at 45 degree angle) make sure you do it with no pitch(rolled over the the left of right, and that your rudder's not turned in any direction.

Level bombinb requires practice. I practiced on Clean Sweep, Single player on MEC side. and found that consistency was key. If you fly higher, or faster then each bombing run will give your varying results, and usually very satisfying ones either.

The best alt I found was 80m and around 70% of my speed - This is where having a joystick with throttle control comes in handy - this way you can, after you've dropped your bombs of course; Go to full speed, hit your afterburners and gain altitude in case you've been locked on my another Jet or AA weapon.

Leading in to my next point, the best tactic when sitting in a Stinger or IGLA AA gun is to sit next to it, and when you spot a jet to hop in once he is overhead. This way it's too late for him to drop bombs, or use his cannon.
Once you sit in the AA site a little box shows up much like the vehicles ones, indicating it is occupied and ready of a strafing run

However, most experienced pilots play the maps they play often enough to know the location of each AA site and will gun them down with a single pass, thus removing the threat ahead of time.

I appreciate your extensive and informative response...

However I am a skilled bomber, and have my own personal alt/speed/angle settings depending whether i'm in a fight jet, or fight/bomber.

my question wasn't about bombs.. it was about the guided missles found in the 2-seater planes on maps such as gulf of oman, wake island. I've spent countless hours learning how to bomb myself in planes... but was inquiring on how to affectively "missle strike" ground targets.

Do you need to wait till your guy says " i'm locked on" or just fire when you line up the crosshair with the circle.

most pilots I found were douchebags that were only concerned with flying in circles waiting to drop tons of bombs and get personal kills. I think the guided missle position is much more effective in the hands of the right person. one well guided missle takes out a target instantly.. no going back to the base to reload... and it tracks targets that move or turn.

I just haven't figured out a way to consistanly hit them.

          I see,

Well you just wait until you get a locked on signal by keeping your cross hair of the intended target, then when you locked on you will get an automatic response informing you that such has occurred, then release. :yay:

Don't wait for the "I'm locked on" message, wait for the target to light up on the ground radar and release immediately.

I still say your pilot is ****ty.

cool thx.. i'll try and find a pilot that is interested in working as a team.
now if I can only find a way to keep the j-10,mig29,f35,and f-18 whores off my six so I can get in a decent bombing run....

You can fire that quickly?

I guess I never tried that. I don't really fly the bomber style jets that often.

I mean light up and lock, the same as when you're dogfighting. But you can actually dumbfire it and guide it to the target - but that requires a pilot with actual skill, the exact opposite of what we're talking about.

Technically, the missiles tend to lock on on the fly. I suggest you point towards the nearest target and hold on it. Once the lock on message appears, the missile is already on its way towards the target and should hit. It comes down to skill and experience. You can manually guide the missiles, and you actually should. Dont watch the crosshair, dont pay that much attention to it. Just watch the missile and guide it, without concentrating on the crosshairs. If youre good at fly-by view, this should be a piece of cake. Consider the missile as a RC mini plane that you need to guide from an outside view. It takes some time to get used to, like the rather akward (in terms of FPS mouse use) TV guided missiles on choppers.

Pilots should fly at maximum speed, the most optimal angle is anywhere between 30 and 60 degrees.

There are some great videos on Youtube on how to bomb. That's where I learned it anyway.

you don't have time for all that when playing against experienced pilots.

I never slow down, and people that know how to fire the missile usually get the kills before my bombs fall. You can fire the missile before the lock, this is easier in the SU, F-15 is harder to use.

This one's all on the pilot unfortunately. Which is why co-piloting is bomber is all but rarely utilized. Great weapon that was never fully used by the community.

                            Get a better pilot.

okay thx for the replies ..

I know how to manually click-and-guide in the chopper.. but i've never heard tell of manually guiding the missles in on a fighter/bomber.. How is this accomplised?

I usually just wait until I get the circle around the target, and aim my crosshair in the middle of the circle and shoot immediately.. It sometimes hits.. and a couple of times I watched it turn into a tank as it changed directions. But I was wondering what the point of waiting for the "locked on" message - if you don't need it for it to home in.

I agree that it mostly depends on the pilot keeping the target in your field of view until the missle is half way to the target, and it seems to lock on in mid flight.. But i'm still confused with the " i'm locked on" message with that tone you hear.. what it's purpose is.. and if somebody is a bomber-missle whore if they can shed some light on how to guide it in manually or if it's better to let it auto-track.

                              again thx for the replies
