Should I turn on SLI or NO???

Hi, please take a look at my signature. I cant decide for myself if I want to turn on the sli or no. SLI doesnt give me a huge performance gain instead I lag more often. Please let me know what you guys think. Doesnt cpu also bottleneck when it cant handle info from both cards???

People might think I am getting 100fps constant but they are wrong. My ingame settings are:

Geometry, texture, texture filtering, Light = High
    Effects, Terrain = Medium
    Dynamic Shadows = Medium
    Dynamic Light = Low
    AA = 2x
    View Distance Scale = 100%
    Res: 1680x1050@60

    Nvidia Drivers: 162.18

In Gulf of Oman server, I do fine about 60 but if a lot of stuff is happening such as bombing, artillery, infantry, etc. I lag a lot. I dont know whats going on.

Just formatted my hd, reinstalled xp, game the right way, went to bf2lag.com, and followed most of the necessary steps.

I have no freaking clue why I bought two 7800 GTX when they dont even perform that good. So please let me know what I can do to improve performance or if I should enable or disable sli?

    Thanks in advance.

Something isn't right there I've got a single 7800GTX and I can play on all high with no lag at all on any map no matter what is happening.CPU's can cause bottle necks, but yours CPU shouldn't, You should be able to play with all setting maxed out with no lag. I'd turn on SLI and see what happens.

LOL. First of all I like the .gif in your signature, lol. Can you please tell me that server that you go to. I lag constantly during firefights at one single flag. I get hiccups/small freezes while driving around in Gulf of Oman 64 player sever. Several people have told me that I should be able to run this game flawlessly but it doesnt. I'll give it a shot. Thanks mate.

Well I live in Australia so I play on Internode or GameArena servers because there are really close to were i live and I also use http://www.game-monitor.com/ that site to find servers close to you so have a low ping.

physics cards drain the cpu of some power...so remove it, only a few games recommend them, but take it out or disable it if it came with a program for settings.

im on a amd athlon xp 2400Mhz running at 1.2Ghz, 1Gb of kingston DDR 133Mhz RAM, Nvidia Geforce FX5700LE running at 256Mb, and i can run BF2 on any map on any server i play on, and have my settings on High and AA x 8, DL and DS at High also, the more programs/processes running the less ram you have, you're system is ram hungry, ram is its food, not enough ram and it rebukes at you, so just buying like 1gb more of ram might help quite alot, but having less programs running will help even more...even one little program that you dont need turned on, can give your PC a crap load of a boost if you turn it off.

Re: Should I turn on SLI or NO???

@tonic I have enabled sli and it lags even worse. My maximum fps was 52 and average was 35fps at all high, 4xAA, and 1680x1050@60 resolution.

Thx for the responses guys. I will take out the physx card tomorrow and check it out. Btw, How can physx card bottleneck the cpu when it is not even being used???

I am also attaching two screenshots of my task manager. One shows the processes and other shows the cpu and pf usage right after I quit BF2:

                  1. Processes
                  2. CPU and PF usage after I quit BF2 (you can see when I was playing BF2 by looking at the point where CPU usage was 100%. PF usage was 1.29gb during gameplay.)

Thanks once again. This time I will report back with the ageia physx card out.

I was just checking some benchmarks done on 7800GTX by various websites. Check em out. They are nothing like what I am getting.

                  1. Anand Tech - Battlefield 2 Demo (Using an FX 55 and only 1 gb ram)

                  2. Firing Squad (Tested with different cpus and gpus)

                  3. X-bits labs (CPU Athon 4000+)

                  4. Rage 3d (Athlon 3500+ and 1gb ram)

                  5. PC perspective

                  6. The Inquirer

After looking at all of these benchmarks I am puzzled how this card has the ability to perform but it doesnt. The one with firing squad is even insane. Please tell me whats going on. One the other hand, according to the anandtech I should get around 85 fps with sli enabled which is exactly the opposite in my game.

P.S. I have yet to remove my physx card. It will be accomplished today.

INFO: It merged my 2 posts together.

I think you somehow have adjusted your eyes to single digit frame rates because you'll definetly be getting them on full sharqi servers.

As for the poster, remove the physics card and turn on the SLi for sure. BF2 see likes a 20 - 30% increase with SLi.

Not yet. But I will tonight. g2g to work now.

Ok. I got bad news today. All this time, when I thought that I had physx card I dont. My brother told me that we did but apparently that turned out to be incorrect. I opened up the comp. and looked everywhere but no physx card so I guess that is out of the question. That was a bummer today.

So now we are down to the nitty gritty. I updated my sig so that it wouldnt cause anymore trouble.

Sry guys. I am sure about the rest of the specs though. Now its simple to troubleshoot.

Do you have the SLi bridge installed? Do you have the correct SLI profile selected in the drivers? Is your motherboard enabled for SLI and allowing the correct bandwidth to each PCIe slot.. either 8x and 8x or 16x and 16x, possibly 16x and 8x.

have you turned of v-sync in gfx card options or youre frame rate will be cap at ur refresh rate (i.e 60)

you could also try lowering the res,at that res i dont think it would go mutch higher than 60.

                              just a thought :)
