BF2 Won't Start

Okay, so I click the BF2 icon and I hear my disc start spinning, but it just goes to a black screen and then closes. Any suggestions?

It's worked before on this machine, so I really don't know what the problem could be. I tried getting my latest video drivers and DirectX, but it was of no help.

try full reinstall and then patch?

It's the SecuROM CD check that's failing probably. I have no solution to offer other than rebooting your machine and then trying again (and again and again).

I had this problem once with GTA: Vice City. Oddest thing. I had played the game for years, then after a fresh re-install of WinXP, I couldn't launch the game. Rebooting helped, but it was still an intermittent problem that eventually fixed itself. Don't ask me how. :)
