Okay So this has been happening every round I play for a while now. I can get into the server fine, and I play for a few minutes give or take, and then all of a sudden it freezes, a sound plays over and over, and then crashes to desktop. I have tried everything I have found, and my computer easily plays it on medium/high, its just that it always crashes. There isn't any lag by the way, just random crashing. I don't have any expansions installed


I have tried:
-Updating PB. (every time I play)
-Deleting Profiles.
-Deleting Cache. (every time I play)
-Deleting LogoCache.
-Re-installing Game. (about 5 ****ing times!)
-Re-installing Patch.
-Patching to a different patch, and then re-patching.
-Moving the Battlefield folder to desktop.
-Turning off VoIP/ sound settings on low.
-Latest Direct X my card supports (9.0c)
-Latest Drivers (94.24)
-Manual Uninstall

Specs:
-Intel core duo 2.8 Ghz
-Nvidia 256 MB 7600 gs
-250GB Hard drive
-1 GB Memory


BY THE WAY: I am running XP professional, is it possible that BF isn't compatible or any reason it couldn't be???????

In all that, you seem to have left your soundcard out of your "things I've tried" list.

If your crashes are consistent and repeatable, you could try modifying your BF2 shortcut and adding "+noSound" to the parameter list. If you can then play a round or two or three (will be weird/hard without sound, but this is just to diagnose) without crashing, then that's your problem.

You could also try testing your memory overnight with MemTest.


Edit: Oh, and since you only have 1 GB of RAM, Windows will be thrashing your pagefile heavily, so you should also do a chkdsk of the drive you have your pagefile on. (Rare if this is your problem, but not unheard of.)

This is just so weird because the sound on my old computer was inferior. Everything on that computer was inferior to my new one and it ran fine. I just don't get it. I'll try the no sound and defrag my hard drive tomorrow. Thanks

To be clear, I'm in no way asserting that your soundcard drivers are the cause of your crashes. I'm just saying that's one thing you haven't ruled out yet.

And also, to clarify about your hard drive and pagefile, I was suggesting you check the drive for errors, not necessarily defrag it. (A fragmented drive will not cause the game to crash.)

just to make sure, ur on 1.41 patch? i remember i had this problem constantly on an earlier patch.

and i also think it could be just ur system stressing too much. i sometimes just CTD whenever im in a super intense firefight

Yes I am on 1.41. and i updated the sound drivers today too, but it didn't work still. How do I checkdisk?

Start --> My Computer --> right-click on the drive and select properties

Then on the Tools tab, do a "Check Now.." and make sure "Automatically fix file system errors" is selected. Reboot, and then before Windows loads, it will check the disk. Pay attention and look to see if it finds (and fixes) any errors.

Yeah, but that still doesn't rule it out, especially if we are talking about Creative Labs (you haven't said what soundcard/chip you are using). :p Since Vista, all their drivers have degraded heavily, even their XP drivers. (Conclusion: CL devs are over-paid, lazy morons given their turn-around time for the past eight months.)

Anyway, if it's not your soundcard, then I don't know. I still think you should try the "+noSound" thing just to rule it out, but other than that, it's probably just flaky nVidia drivers. There hasn't been a "rock solid" version since the 9x.yy series.

I just did the disk check and No errors, so I'm going to try the +Nosound. If the sound is the issue, then whats a solution for it?. By the way Where can i find a different driver? The one that came with the card doesn't fix the crash, nor does the latest.

First, you still haven't told us what soundcard you have. :p Second, I don't want to send you on a wild goose chase. To repeat yet again, I'm not saying that your soundcard is the source of your troubles. I'm just saying there is no harm in ruling it out considering all the other measures you have taken.

If the +noSound thing still crashes your game, I guess you could try installing the latest nVidia driver. You said you did, but you stated it as v.94.24. That's incorrect. :shock:

I don't have a aftermarket sound card. I looked in my dxdiag and all it says is realtekac97. I didn't notice that came out. Thats only a few days old. Thanks. Ill let you know.

Have u checked ur GPU temp? CPU temps? process's running, maybe some malware possibly takin up more ram, plus i'd consider more than 1GB for this game, will run lots smoother IMO.
also IF u have other games do they do the same?
checked for registry error's, done a good cleanup & defrag after all that & see what happens.

Its not a cooling problem. I have all the fans on the highest setting. What are some processes that could take up space? I have never had another game do this sort of thing.

well i donno, sometimes you can get bugs that run in the background and take up memory, or maybe simple sometimes like your antivirus downloading a update, which i doubt is your problem. Or you may have some program that is running that not needed , I kinda doubt its your problem but allways good to check, here's a sweet program for the process's if you like to make it easy i use it

Well, I have had the game since it came out, but this is a new problem, on a new computer. It all started when I got my new computer. I got this error today:

"memory.dll: sanity check: block size -2013264896 (2176.00 MB) doesn't seem sane"

I think it's a memory problem. I will put in some other memory and try it. I have read that it worked for some.
