Disapearing Public servers/maps

I have been playing the game for some time and have noticed that both ranked and unranked servers seem to be dissapearing out of my multiplayer listings.Why is this? I am a bit of a noob when it comes to understanding how to join a new server or add an ISP can anyone tell me how to do it please..
Basically i would like more maps to play on and am willing to pay for them if needed, i just dont know how to go about it... Any help appreciated..

Oooh, aren't you just lucky

They disappear due to BF2's crappy ping filtering that removes half the servers at random times and still tries pinging all of them (or so it feels like).
