Can I move the whole BF2 folder?

    Hi guys.

My last BF2 installation was on my external USB hard drive, which as you might think is not the best thing for performance. Now that I have freed some space on my main HD, can I simply move the whole BF2 folder from my external HD to my main one, and just edit my shortcuts? it would be easier than a new installation and won't require me to re-edit my localization files and so on. It sounds all too wonderful, so please tell me that I can do it.

The only thing that would be affected by moving besides the shortcuts would be installing patches or mods. You might need to point mods to the correct folder and patches wouldn't install at all unless you also change the registry entry that points to where the game is installed.

Do you mean that if I want to install patches I'll have to redirect them, and same applies with mods? Will my BF2 be patched as it is now if I move it?

Can anybody give me an answer?

Mods can normally be redirected but I don't think patches give you the option. It's pretty simple to change the path in the registry though. Just look for the key:
          HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2
          and edit the "InstallDir" entry.

HDD speed has very little influence on the game; I use a notebook with a 5400rpm drive and I'm usually one of the first in to maps (because of 2 GB of RAM). A USB 2.0 drive would not be much worse than that if at all. The initial loading of BF2 might be slow though.
