Re: differences in game load times?

Recently built a new rig ...dual core, 4 gigs ram, 8800GTS, and from the time I click 'join server' to 'join game' is 5 to 10 seconds. I can spawn, run to helo, make a squad, be airborn and to the first flag before my partner spawns. On a IO Karkand, I can spawn USMC, make a squad, and be halfway to Suburbs to spawn on. When I have been in a server, and it reloads the map, I will almost always get kicked for 'not having same version' ...then rejoin server, load map, and still spawn before most everyone. Its a kick really ...compared to my last rig, which took a good 3 minutes to load a map.

Re: differences in game load times?

I'm sure having a top of the line rig cuts load times but I'm still using the comp I built 2 1/2 years ago and I'm always one of the first few to load in on a map.

      My specs:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3800+ OC 2.64 GHz Mainboard: Asus A8V Deluxe Memory: Corsair TWINX2048-3200XLPRO 2 GB Dual Channel HDD: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200GB SATA (X2) Graphics Card: ATI X850XT Platinum Edition Sound Card: Audigy 2 ZS Gamers Edition Power Supply: Seasonic SS-650HT Operating System: Windows XP Professional Edition

Wow, your reply and all the others settles the score then, as far as I am concerned. I can't believe the nice machines some of you guys are using! Oh well, maybe one day lol....

Thanks for the replies, that definitely answers my question.

          Hey! I resemble that remark!

Like I said, 2.4 P4, vanilla 6600 AGP, 2 gigs ram, 7200rpm sata. Not a bad machine, all in all, but wow, it's like an abacus compared to some of you guys, LOL!

Heh, no it's just me being a smart aleck. I like butchering spelling and pronunciation, just to be a jerk I guess. Come on, don't you ever play Golf of Omar or Sharky? My wife's name is Dalena, so of course it is always Dalena Plant. And don't get me started with Shongo Stalemate or Daking Oilwell.

Yeah, I am amused pretty easily, what can I say....

First load is always slow, if you also want to shorten your account server login, delete your favorites as can take a while due to the servers being pinged.

the faster your HD the faster you load for the most part. ram helps loading, but your HD and only your HD speed will speed up verifying.

hmm funny you put together that rig but you failed to mention the type/speed/timings of your ram, is it identical?, andbody that spends that kind of money on a PC ALWAYS mentions their ram. heck you could have 6-6-6-20 533 for all i know.

to buy 4 sticks of 2 gig ddr2 shows me your inexperiance with PCs, for one thay are way over priced and without decent specs for their price, for 2, DDR3 is out in 2 months that completely blows away anything DDr2 has to offer, the first motherboards for it are already flooding the market.

Re: differences in game load times?

It defiantly has a lot to do with the amount of RAM and your HDD speed.

I have had a pretty fast, well OCed machine for over a year now. The memory on the thing is clocked super fast for DDR1. But I have always ran IDE and never upgraded my 4 HDDs.

A few weeks ago, I finally pulled the plug on a very large SATA2 HDD. Now, I am in one of the first in and all the way across the map before anyone spawns in on me. I now have to tell people over VOIP to wait to spawn on me till I get to the CP!

Having a Raptor in RAID0 helps a lot too and/or 2GB of RAM.

yeh pisses me off too. they all whore the map, and must see it so often when its loading, yet they still dont know how to spell it.:shakehead:

as for loading times, i tend to be in the middle for the majority of the time. every now and again im near being the first.
a question though. why doesnt the server wait for 6 people who are ready to play before the round begins? 'cause sometimes ive seen 1 bloke has taken half the control points before that number of people are even ready.

RAM has very little to do with FPS. In general, that is.

funny cuz my load times are mediocre
                          usually about 30-90sec.
                          my rig:
                          amd 64fx @ 2.6ghz
                          2x sapphire x1950xts
                          2x kingston 512mb RAM
                          24" sony lcd mon DVI
                          1x seagate 500GB HDD
                          dlink wireless 54mps nic

idk it could be the area i live in but i dont think so.
