Crash to Desktop ONLY for Highway Tampa

I think it's because I accidentally ejected the CD one time when I was playing Hiway Tampa. Now whenever I join a Tampa server, it kicks to desktop right after the full load where it says 'Verifying Client Data'.

All other maps load just fine. Occasionally when I try to load a Tampa map, it'll kick back to the menu screen with an error message about 'Revert to the original version of BF2'.

It's gotta have something to do with the Tampa map. Does anyone know of a way to clear out only the Highway Tampa expansion pack?

You are the first one to mention that. You might have to uninstall since Battlefield 2 programming is f**ked up.

yes. Go to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\Levels and delete Highway Tampa. try redownloading after you remove it.

OK thanks, I deleted and reinstalled... happily I saved the original install zip.
I'll respond back once I get a chance to test it (hopefully later today).

I'm also having a problem with Highway Tampa. Sometimes when i'm playing on it, the game will crash to desktop, and my desktop would be all messed up. Things like colours and resolution would be way off. Then I have to restart my computer because nothing will load. After I restart, everything is fine.

Hmmm... Still doesn't work after I deleted and re-installed the Level directory. I thought it might be a punkbuster thing, so I have updated that a bunch of times. No soup.
I think there may be other files included in the Highway Tampa update, I'd like to delete those as well. I love Highway Tampa, but I don't want to reinstall all of BF2 for it, it's just too much computer time that I don't have...

Tomeis, that sounds like it might be a memory thang... Make sure you do the things they mention at TweakGuides.com

Either that, or the video card. I only get it on Tampa, and it's probably because Tampa is bigger than all the other maps. I only have 750mb of RAM and a geforce 5200. It doesn't happen that often, so I guess I can get use to it until I get my new computer.

Re: Crash to Desktop ONLY for Highway Tampa

OK, I went to EA Support and tried the following:
Deleted the following folders: C:\My Docs\Battlefield 2\dmp, LogoCache, & mods

I found that at this page.

It didn't work... I still crashes right at Verifying Client Data. Crashes right to desktop, nice and clean too. Not graceful at all. Occasionally (like if I try it right after a reboot), it will return me back to the main BF2 server screen, saying something in an error box like 'You are running the wrong version of BF2'.

This all makes me think it's Punkbuster or some such. This all sucks, I loves me some Tampa

I have this exact same problem. Any luck so far? I am redownloading the map and the 1.41 patch. I tried to update punkbuster and I agree that I think it is playing a role in the problem.:shakehead:

If anyone has fixed this problem I appreciate any help you can give. I want to see this map.

Re: Crash to Desktop ONLY for Highway Tampa

Sorry you're having the same problem Zane... Just to note, Hiway Tampa worked great for about a month, then one day started this ill behavior. I think it's because I accidentally ejected the CD while playing that map, but that's just a guess.
Let me know if your patch re-install works...

OK, I downloaded the patch and re-applied, no luck. Like I said above, sometimes it fails back to the lobby with the following message:
"This server only allows players with unmodified content to join. Please revert your version of Battlefield 2 to the current official version to join"
Thing that's weird is that all other maps work. Odd indeed.
I think I'll opt for the full re-install. Sucks, but I love Tampa too much to miss.

OK, I did the full wipe and reinstall, still nothing.

UPDATE: SOLVED: I reinstalled a second time, but this time I used a different download of Hiway Tampa...
The original, bad version was: "Highway_Tampa_Beta_BF2.zip"

The new version, that worked, was:
                    "BF2_Highway_Tampa_Update.zip"

There is a difference in file sizes for the patch:
                    Bad (BF2Content_Beta.exe): 66,401,764
                    Good (BF2_Highway_Tampa_Update.exe): 66,786,101

I had no idea they re-released the map as non-beta. Duh.
I hope my troubles help someone else figure this out quicker than I. I've been back into Tampa and lovin all the tank action... Thanks to all the engineers that drive around repairing tanks, that's really cool... I do it too when there are no tanks to be had...
