Connection probs

Hey all

For about 3 weeks now i have been having High pings and LOST CONNECTION TO SERVER probs in BF2.

ISP checked things out from that end all is good(they say).

Have any of you been getting this to the point where its outa the norm if so...

Have you fixed it?

And how did you do so?

Yes all drivers etc are up to date i just did a reformat(low level and all) do to some other issues and nothing has changed on the bf2 end of things.

I think PB is updated
I have not done it my self i thought it did it on its own.
If i must do it my self how do i go about this?

Also how do i find out if i have the current version befor i try and update it my self?

Ok updating now lets see if it helps.

Nah didnt help might just have to hang the BF2 belt up for good well the EA belt i should say.

Storm, what type of phone do you have?

*I had too many connection problems, and I have a Voip phone, and it was causing the problems.

Also make sure all firewalls allow Battlefield 2, and make sure windows firewall allows it.

Have you tried resetting your router? (worked out for me a bunch of times)

I have Cable internet

i have No viruses(3 day old install of xp pro)

And yes router has been reset/ FULL power cycle on all

Though one, this!
I suggest at least installing avg anti virus, spybot and adaware - even if it doesn't solve your problem everyone should use them for general internet use IMO.
I haven't got cable so not sure how it all works. All I can say is that if you're using wireless get rid of it and use good old fashioned wires.

I had that problem recently. Partly happened because the port I had my switch uplinked to the router on was hard-set 100/FDX. I set it for Autoneg and all was fine.

I also found that if your NIC has any kind of hardware offloading turned on in the driver....TURN IT OFF....it'll most likely be causing retransmits 100s of times a second.

If all else fails, fire up Wireshark and see whats going on.

I have connection probs as well and am running cable(notwireless)

How do i check to see if the NIC has any kind of hardware offloading turned on and if so how do i trun it off?

For XP:

Right-click on "My Network Places", select "Properties".

Then right-click on your primary ethernet adapter (usually "Local Area Connection") and select "Properties".

Then click the "Configure" button next to your adapter description.

You should be provided with a multi-tabbed menu. One of the tabs may be labeled "Advanced". Select that, and you will be presented with a list of functions your driver provides.

On mine, I had "Offload Checksum", and "Offload TCP_Largsend". Your descriptions may vary, but in general, disable any offloading.

The process to offload checksums et al to hardware is very complicated, and a three-step process. From what I understand, the packets can be passed across the PCI bus as a last step, UNCHECKED, and can be delivered corrupt across the wire. Best to just let the host cpu do the checksums and all that.

Apparently, you don't really save much by offloading, especially with today's CPUs. It wouldn't even amount to a 1% savings, most likely.
