bf2 ticking me off with probs

i just a got a new rig all set up. 2 geforce 7900's in sli, 2 gigs of ddr 800, and an
amd athlon 64 dual core 4800. so far i have reinstalled 3 times. its a diff prob it seems everytime. 1st time, would load to about 62% then crash to desktop, so i reinstalled. 2nd time could never load resources for 1st time play. even after been left for an hr i was still on the same %. 3rd time can even get into game with out crashing to desktop. i cant make it to the start vids. i did a search and the closest thing was this guys thread

but the fix did not work for me. now this gameplayed perfect on my old setup. i dontthink its hardware (i could be wrong, cause 99% of the time i am it seems) but all my other games and programs work perfect. i have all the newest drives including bios sound vid and anything else i can find. im just tired of renstalling this game every 2-3 days.

it means your bits hit a mud puddle whilst transversing from your hd to your cpu to your memory to your gpu and back again.

it's either bad drivers or (less likely) bad hardware. i'm not a 2xgpu guru, so i'm prejudiced in that if I was trouble shooting a fault, i'd take out 1 gpu and 1 stick of ram and try the process again. if it still locked up, i'd put the other stick and the other card in and try again. if it still didn't work, then you know your software is hosed somewhere--maybe (unlikely) in the install CD, maybe try redownload whatever direct X version you're on. If you can't narrow the fault to a piece of hardware with 1xgpu and 1xram, then you KNOW your software is bugged.

Worst case would be reinstall windows w/1x everything, then throw in pieces until everything works.

P.S. Buying two 7900's? ick. what sort of psu do you have?

I don't think his PSU is at fault as his system will not draw more than 200W at any time. But I'm assuming you got a quality PSU.

As megawhompertoo said, try the basics. Take one card out and use only one stick of RAM. Download MemTest, and try each stick of RAM individually. Running 12hrs with no errors is completely stable. And try each 7900GS individually. If things don't work with one card and not the other, you've found your problem. I'd check your hardware before reinstalling Windows.

thanks for the info.
thing is my comp runs everything else great. no probs at all. just bf2. ijust reinstalled and everything is ok again, but i know in a few days it will stop working again.

the reason i bought 2 7900's they were cheap as hell. and i have a 500w power supply. i dont think the psu is the prob either cause i can run other games qwith everything cranked and no overheating or problems at all.

Don't assume anything. His PSU could be fine, and then again it couldn't.

Running a conservative setup, including the parts the OP listed, plus a single HD and CD-ROM, through a PSU calculator:

Yielded a requirement of 248W. But wattage isn't everything. Amperage is just as, if not more important.

Try running Memtest and see if you get any errors to rule out a bad stick of RAM.

well i did the psu calc and im within range of what i need. ill do the memtest and and the 1 thing at a time next time bf goes awry

well i found out what it was.. my HDD. this morning nothing but bsod after about 3 min after boot up. its making some pretty bad clicking noises. and once the clicking starts mycomp crashes. weird that it was bf2 that kept not working. oh well im on a new hdd now and we will see

If ur running sli'd 7900 you need more than 500W!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am running a single 6800 with and amd FX-55 clawhammer and i am close to maxing out my PSU. You also want to make sure you get a PSU with high amps >34A across the 12+ rail. The PSUs with multiple 12+ rails at lower amps just aren't as good, so be conscious of that.

I would go with a 750 or 800W with your rig set up! (especially if you are going to plug a lot into the usb ports and power those periferrals off the PSU too)

BS!!

CPU=65W, 2x 7900GT= 130W, HDD=20W, Mobo=40W, RAM=20W, DVD Drive= 10W, Sound Card =10W. Total=300W And this figure is extremely exaggerated!!! A 400W PSU could easliy handle this. (But not some generic one) 500W is plenty. And don't say "Amps are more important" because if all 300W were on the 12v rail, only 25A would be drawn! Unless you get a really crappy PSU, it surely has 25A on the combined 12V rails. And remember 300W is exaggerated! Actual wattage will be much much less. The amperage will be spread across the 3.3 and 5V rails, so 25A is extremely generous.

As I've just proved, 500W is already overkill. Your PSU is completely fine, and is likely to work at less than 50% during full load.

Hve u tried battlefield 2142? cuz i had a weird streek were 3 games would'nt worl all from EA , maybe its just the game, that would make sence if both battlefleds did'nt work as they use a similar engine.
