  • Taking Out Tanks as Infantry

Im not finshed Im posting this now so I dont lose what I typed

If you are a solo AT person these first few parts may be helpful for you. The main Advantage Infantry has over Armor is the fact that Infantry is mobile they are able to manuever through alleys and turn fast and when a tank is in an urban spot it is preety much confined to the roads.

Part 1 Anatomy of a Tank

Main turret- The most deadily part of a tank takes awhile to move around but its sheel does a great deal of splash damage and can kill you without directly hitting you.

Gunner- Gives the tank visibility as it can move quicker it can notice C4ers and kill them. Best way to deal with them is to simply get behind them and kill them or just shoot them wile they are not looking. If there are freindly infantry around this will open the door for them to use C4 and mines against the tank

Treads- The weak spot on a tank 2 AT rockets here can blow up to tank depending on how close to the rear of the tank they were the closer it hits towards the rear on the treads the greater damage it will do.

In summary its best to attack a tank from behind it will take time to turn around while you can displace easier and it only takes 2 shots to kill it from behind.

Part 2 Tools of the trade

This is a quick overview of the commonly used Anti Tank weapons.

AT Rockets (SRAW/ERYX)- These come with the AT kit they are very effective aginst tanks and can travel long distances you can guide them by holding down the left mouse button after you fire and then moving the scope in the direction you want the rocket to go. hitting 2 of these in the back side of the tanks treads will take it out clean.

AT Mines- These come with the Enginer kit they are usefull but if FF is on for mines dont put them in areas where freindlys might travel. placing them infront of and behind enemy tanks is a good way to take out a tank but it is risky since you have to get both infront and behind the tank. They can also be removed by enginers with the wrench. It is more usefull in team operations.

C4- Explosive device capable of taking out a tank with 2 packs. It is a very addaptable device it is capable of being straped on to vehicles and being used as a car bomb to just being laid somewhere and used as a trap. It has a remote detonator and it takes 2 of them to blow up a tank.

Part 3 Basics of Tank traps

While all the above work these tank traps are more efficent (and more fun) but require team work. here are the parts of them.

False Security- A very important aspect if you want to ambush an unsuspecting tank if a tank has to drive a long ways from its spawn point and it sees mines while its still behind the front lines and FF is off for mines they may just assume they are freindly but then when they drive over them they get blown up (this has a higher succes rate on urban maps when they are forced to stay on the roads).

Teamwork- If you are with another AT person it is very effective to have both of you launch AT rockets into the treads at the same time getting almost a guarented kill. But tank hunting is more then that and it can require more team work to pull off stunts that can acctually end up with the enemy dead and you in their tank.

Preparation- As soon as you know a tank is coming be ready and have your plans known this way your squad knows exaclty what to do in any possible scenario like if the guy ditches the tank or if he has a gunner who to kill first. It is also important to know when to fire so that both your shotts go off at the same time.

    Part 4 Destroying the tank

Now we get to the fun stuff give me some time to finish this part....

Jihad Jeeping- Very fun tactic just place 2 or 3 C4 charges on the fron of a fast moving vehicle preferable a DPV or if you have to a humvee and just drive real fast into a tank if you are low enough on health then your humvee will explode in the collison with the tank the DPV will expllode at full speed with full health. if your vehicle does not blow up get out and blow it up imediatly unless you are sure you can get far enough away from the vehicle and the tank will still be blown up by it.

If FF is off it is possible to do this without dying if your in a humvee by placing 2 C4s in the fron and 3 on the bottom then switching to the back seat and detonatins it there. The enemy tank will be destroyed and you will be propelled up in the air where you can bail out and parachute to the ground unharmed.

Tank Fishing- The trick here is to lay mines somewhere where the tank cant swirve around them or if your alone blow up a bridge (use false security to your advantage here). If the guy in a tank is an enginer he will probably get out to repair it or remove the mines if he does kill himand take his tank unless he has a gunner. If he has a gunner sneak around to the tank kill the gunner hop in and kill the guy that is removing the mines or reparing the bridge now they are dead and you have the tank.

Ambush- Stay hidden and have an AT buddy on the other side of the road preferably in a building then when you hear a tank coming again make him think he is in a safe spot then when you both get the chance fire and aim for the treads the tank may have time to pop smoke but it wont be able to dodge the rockets. If it is a convoy it is sometimes usefull to have a 3rd guy on the ground who can take out any infantry on the groun or get a shot on the remaing vehicle while they try and kill those in the buildings while they are reloading.

An ambush with 2 AT rockets is the easiest way to get a kill but its still fun to try and draw the enemy out of the tank and then steal it. the risky thing with using mines is they may turn back and find a new way if they are suspicious.

If you have any questions or need help PM me imm not done here but this guide took me near an hour to write so I am taking a break.

A checkerboard/arrow pattern for AT mines works pretty well. You can't swerve around them without turning 90 degrees.

Mh. I can't totally agree with you because there are enormous exceptions we need to look at before saying that infantry advantage is its mobility.

A tank is able to produce a higher acceleration than any sprint could ever do. This means that the tank can run under cover and dodge your AT rocket if you fire them from too far away; in fact, most tank drivers are able to dodge an AT rocket if they see it, and they won't stay in such a spot that will make them unable to do so.

So, the tank too has great mobility. The fact is that even if it's much much faster than you, you can go where it can't: narrow streets, top of buildings. But even when you are there, and under cover from direct fire, the driver can still kill you with the shell blast damage.

So, if you're trying to destroy a tank with AT rockets, you should care about your positions:

      - not too far away, 'cause the driver is likely to see the rocket coming, dodge it and kill you next time you try;
      - near some total cover: you definetly want to hide after you've fired, 'cause the driver is always very likely to guess or see where you've fired from. So, try not to shoot again from the same spot.
      - your cover mustn't at any cost allow for splash damage, otherwise you'll almost surely be killed. So if you've just fired your rocket and you're reloading while hiding behind a corner stay at least 5 meters or so from it, because the tank driver might shoot at the ground near the corner. Same thing for narrow streets or top of buildings. And of course, you should really never stay inside a building, cause windows can't stop a shell and splash damage is likely to kill you.

Trying to destroy a tank alone is hard buisness, especially if there's a gunner in it. You'd better work with other AT troops and fire from different spots, that's all it is about. If there's one of your tanks in the area, supporting it with your AT rockets is a great way to save your precious killing fortress and destroying the bad one.

I'm not saying a word about sticking C4 and jihad jeeping 'cause a) you can figure out how to do this on your own and b) you'll be succesful only against dumb drivers that will never switch their view and will stay so close to narrow streets, and so far away from infantry support, to allow for a sneaky spec ops to humiliate them.

I like to use C-4 to make boobie traps. I like to stick 2 C-4 to telephone poles, trash dumpsters, sand bag walls for this purpose. For some reason the guys in tanks never look there for them and every map has at least one such spot where 99.9% of the enemy will drive the tank close enough to so you can get the kill. . . . . . . . . . . .Red

Yeah ok but boobie traps require time and security to be set, so you need a place that's not going to be under attack while you place the c4, but where the enemy will be in a reasonable amount of time, otherwise you'll spend the entire round waiting for the tank to be there. Where do you set them?

Hmm I wouldn't say that the infantry is more mobile, for the same reasons that Keiros pointed out. Infantry is, however, much more stealthy. Combine that with the 3 things you pointed out earlier (Teamwork, False Security, and Preparation), and you have a good Tank destroying team.
