Need help with BF2, Please help!!

Sup guys. I built a pc about 6 months ago. I am running a PNY G-force 8800 GTS, 2 gigs of ram, intel 6600 processor. When I install bf2, the installation goes through fine. Without patching, I can select from 3 or 4 maps on the server. When I patch the 1.41 I start having problems. For a long time I could not get the patch to install. It kept failing about midway through the install. Last night I finally got the patch to go all the way through. Before I installed any of my other maps, I wanted to get on and see if it would play. I now have about 430 servers to chose from. When I get a map loading, (big or small) as soon as it gets to around 58-59 percent, it crashes to desktop. Last night a message came up about the memory. I checked my memory and it was reading the full 2 gig's. I have updated my driver on my vidio card. Could someone help me on what I could try next.....I really miss this game. :)

I couldn't tell you what's wrong from what you describe, but in your place I would do the following things:

    1-Uninstall bf2
2-Reinstall bf2 (I assume you purchased the game and didn't download a cracked version)
3-Re-download the patch from EA, not a third party site.
    4-Re-patch to 1.41

Restart your computer between each step, except steps 3 and 4.
This isn't a recipe to fix everything but until you've done it you can't rule out a bad installation as the cause for your problems.
You built your PC? I don't know how skilled you are but I know that buying the wrong type of ram for your mobo or using 2 different speeds will cause problems...

Ok, as a computer tech, I would suggest this. If you are having issues with memory, it is possible that you may have a bad stick of Ram. The easiest way to find out is to download whats called the Ultimate Boot CD (UBCD) at:

Once you burn the ISO image to a CD, restart your maching, make sure the BIOS is set to boot from the CD :] and once the CD boots, select the first option, Im not sure what its called in the 4.1.1 Version, and select Memory Tests, then select "Windows Memory Diagnostics" - the test will start.

From there, its a matter of time. It will use a variety of tests and once a full pass has completed, that means that the whole "test" is complete.

SO, once the 'pass' has gone from 1 to 2, your done.
NOW press the 't' key to run the Advanced Test and it will preform more indepth tests on your Ram. Once that 'pass' has gone from 1 to 2...

YOUR FINISHED. If no errors have shown at the bottom of the screen, YOU have good Ram.

Bad Ram happens alot so you never can be to careful.
NOW IF there are errors, unfortunantly, you have (a or multiple) bad sticks of ram. Since you say you have 2 sticks, I suggest testing each stick at a time.

        INSTRUCTIONS: Burning

UBCD Tests all types of Ram, tests Harddrives, tests CPUs, has Linux OS tools, HD Wiping Tools, and anything else you could think of.

**Keep in mind that the download is in ISO format so you need an extractor, nero has the capability but you MAY have another program that can handle it.

DO NOT burn the ISO file directly to a CD-R because its not extracted. Either on your burning program, select burn ISO image to disk, or extract it with another program.

In the event that you do NOT have a burning program that can handle ISOs, a free burning program is available at:

** More information about UBCD is available at their site at:

          Update:
When completely manually unistalled everything that had to do with BF2 and done a complete windows update. I installed the game completely fresh and even reinstalled my 1.41 patch through the EA link. This time everything worked. I dont know if it had something to do with the windows not being updated or what, but for some reason this time worked perfect. I really want to say thanks for the advice I was given, this has been a long battle trying to get this game to work. Yeeeooooowwww....I'm back baby!!!! :salute:
