    Easy Q

    anyone know how to simply have static smoke spewing out of wherever i want? i went to effects, staticfx and i moved the fire object to where i wanted, but it doesnt appear in-game. Any clues?

      it's not an effect, it's an ambient effect found in the static objects tree. Look in the resources tree:

      objects/staticobjects/ambienteffects/static

      Put it this way, if it has an e_ preceeding the name...it won't work.

      Now if you did place a true static effect, make sure you put it in the default layer. If you put it in a 16 player layer and loaded into the 64 player layer in game, again, you won't see it. Put all objects in the default layer.

        @|d|-jaws - where are you placing your static effects so that they are layer specific? in the GPO?

        all mine are located in staticobjects.con and appear on 16/32/64 layers... I'm just curious is there a different technique?

          I'm not, it's an editor bug. Most times the editor will not allow you to place any static object in any layer other than default, but many times I know I have accidently placed them there(in other layers) and the editor allowed me to do so.

          That's why I made the suggestion above...to check and see if he didn't accidently place the object in a different layer other than default.
