No sound 4dvd movies??

I know its not BF2 related but I don't know where else to go and get support...

Basically, my sound system is F'n A! I go to play a dvd via Windows media player and nero 7 and niether have sound.. WtF? I checked all my volume controls and made sure nothing had mute on. Switched my audio mode to entertainment too and nothing happened.

I didn't hook up/install my onboard audio (mobo) so it can't be a conflict issue..

OMg how could I forget that?!?!


Do you really think I would be stupid enough to have my music blasting, then turn off my speakers and put in a dvd and wonder why the f it's not working?

Sorry to get kind of fresh there but I was expecting a more technical reply and that totally reminded me of EA tech support... One time I needed help and I know everytime you ask for help they give you the same first reply, check backround programs. I told them it had nothing to do with that in the beginning and surely enough they went ahead and asked me anyways.

I wish it was as simple as not turning on my speakers/volume not being turned up but its not =(

Some systems are set up to use the little grey wire from the back of your dvd drive to the soundcard, is that present? I had a cd drive i couldnt play music on until i bought one. If that is missing there is a workaround within Windows but i forget it at the moment.

I had a feeling that may be the case. What confuses me though still is that when music cds are put into it they play fine? Not to mention, I bought a SATA dvd drive. Shouldn't the sound from the dvd travel through the SATA connection?

Any ideas where I can read up on this windows walkaround stuff?

Everything works except sound while watching a dvd... both programs.

Try using spdif out instead of 5.1 in Nero 7, and set your x-fi card on entertainent modus..

Your card can handle spdif, u see when its working a small black dolby digital logo in the lower right corner of your screen...
