Minor BF2 Gripes - can we fix them?

    Hey Yall,

I'm interested in hearing some opinions on certain minor gripes I have with BF2.

I am a SPC. in the US Army. My MOS is 11B, infantry, but other than that I'm not going to get into specifics about my military background simply because I feel it will just cause many to question my honesty and then this post will turn into wondering whether or not Im in the Army. I am, but that doesn't make me an expert on the weapons or anything, these are just my opinions based on some experiences.

    Gripe #1: The .50 Cals/Sniping
I understand that it's a game, and their needs to be some balance, but a .50 is a scary weapon. 9/10 when someone is hit by a .50, there isn't a whole lot of them left. I'm wondering why then in the game, with 2 .50 sniper rifles as options, and .50s mounted on so many vehicles, dont they nearly ALWAYS kill in 1 round? I understand its for balance, but I the .50 (whether sniping or as a mounted weapon) is what we base a lot of our tactics on and around, so they should be a huge part of the game, the way air superiority is.

    Gripe #2: Support
The m249 SAW is something I have a lot of experience with, lots and lots. Anyone who has fired it knows how sexy it can be. Why then is it completely inaccurate from anywhere that is further than 6 inches away? I've never used the MEC or Chinese PKMs or RPK's they have in the game, but hte SAW was my best bud for a good 10 months or so and I'm telling you it should def. be improved like 10 fold in the game.

    Gripe #3: Range/Bullet drop&timing
This one a lot of you out there could also have experience with. I'll look at a flag in the distance, it will usually say something within the 100-250m range away form me, a good distance in BF2. Anyone who has fired an M16 knows that we qualify up to 300m away, and it isnt the most difficult thing. SOOO back to the .50, if im looking at a soldier, who is near a flag that say 196m away or something, thats a fairly easy shot with an m16 if hes stationary,,,that is a walk in the park with any sniper rifle,,,so why is it so difficult at that range? In addition, with the sniping, bullet drop and serious bullet timing at moving targets is ridiculous when you need to factor in both while firing a sniper rifle at some dude running across a bridge 50m away from you.

I love BF2, its my fav. game along with Americas Army(maybe cuz im paid to play ) but when I'm showing the game to friends who want to start, little gripes like these turn them away from the game, occasionally it turns me away. I understand a game like BF needs to find a unique balance between realism and fun, but there are better ways to do that than taking away a serious amount of realism.

I'm not here to try and be one of those nerds who brags about how much they know about guns because they've watched die-hard and played Counter-Strike too many times, these are just some things I was running throuhg my head that could be changed easily and make the game more fun, so I just want some thoughts on the matter. Feel free to say w/e.

I suggest you download Project Reality. It addresses every single one of your gripes, and probably every single one you didn't have time to put down (aside form insta-proning, of course ).

The reason you have those problems (aside from .50s being crap) is due to random deviation. Download Project Reality, or Desert Conflict.

Alternatively, just spend a while getting frustrated to hell with the weapons :p

The MEC and Chinese weapons are mostly superior. AK-47/101, RPK, PKM, that sort of stuff.

Simply because it's a matter of gameplay balance. For the sniper rifle anyway. I agree that the SAW is really inadequate compared to its MEC counterpart.

The game would be foobared even more if we implemented MORE realism....

If the 50cal could 1 shot someone, it would just be a sniper fest on inf only.

I agree, the SAW should be equal, or better than the RPK.
The RPK uses a higher caliber but a slower firing rate.
Accuracy needs to go up on the SAW.

Not really, it wouldn't be. Most claywhorers spam the clays and hence lose skill at using the sniper rifle :p

It'll be bullet spam, but rarely will they hit.

And how many Barrett M107s shooters are in your CO/BTN? If the gun was a one-hit kill in the game, everyone would spawn with it. BF2 has enough n00b snipers already, it doesn't need an onslaught of .50 spammers. Remember, you don't have to go to school or qualify with the rifle, you just have to choose it. Desert Combat had it right where there was typically only one or two of this kit available per map. It was a treat to get one, even better to knife a US sniper and take his

Trust me, this has been one of my biggest gripes in this game since its inception. The SAWS has always stunk in this game, and no patch has ever corrected it. The gun is useless, except for the occasional hallway camp. Unless you have a PKM upgrade, you're better off spamming ammo packs and nades as a US support.

                              Hey guys,

Thanks for the input, thats why I post to get others opinions so I dont just focus on what I have been thinking. I agree with bullet magnet that if there were a limit to snipers, but an increase in their accuracy and power. It's all a balancing act that has been done pretty well, like I said these are minor gripes that are hard to understand to my friends who are just starting the game.

"Dude I have a .50cal sniper rifle and just shot a guy from 100m away, why isn't he dead?"

                              "Umm I donno."

Thats what Im trying to find a solution to.
