For example how an admin treats players...
But at the same time, for example let's say the president of the US wants to play BF2 one evening. He wants to forget about his own work, and forget about absolutely everything that worries him. He forgets about his real life and wants to have fun. He swears, statpads, spawnrapes, kills teammates... He does everything he doesn't dare in his role as the president, and feels and overwhelming relief. The guy actually enjoys the game, and goes to bed with a smile at the end of the day. Is this regarded as important? In this case the Presidents actions don't illustrate how he is in real life, but maybe his "inner self" or maybe not...
I'd like to have freedom in a game. Rules remove that freedom. But then we can question ourselves, do human beings need rules to behave, or is "common sense" enough?
It's very easy to compare: 2 servers, 1 with rules and the other without. After a specific period of time which one has become most populated/popular? Also we need to question ourselves, what do we tolerate? Do we tolerate everything ingame?
At times n00bs can be conservative people, that neglect to learn new stuff, that don't search around for skilled players, that they can learn from. IMO every n00b can be trained, but this person might need a hand. Openminded and people that like to explore new ways and that can accept that others might have something to teach u, have a chance to leave the n00b level, and ascend to "the elite".
The BF2 game has many aspects, and needs many hours to study "fully".
Rules, like in real life limit what you can do. But do rules stop criminals from commiting crimes in the real world? Why are drugs so attracted? Since drugs are forbidden, they are also expensive, thus attracted to those that need fast/lots money. If you tell ure children that they are not allowed to smoke, I'll guarantee you that they will start smoking. In short words these are selfullfilling prophecies.
If you want some people to follow certain rules on a BF2 server, then you need to recruit an admin fulltime.
Rules imprison you. When I play a game I want to forget about rules, because in real life we have allready plenty of them. Does society develop in a positive way because of all the rules? I expect to be free to do whatever I feel like when I play a game, and not to worry every second that I might be breaking a rule. If there wouldn't be rules and ranks, people wouldn't complain so much about statspadding. Statspadding would become a "mod" for BF2, like for example "zoombie mods" in Counter Strike. In short words there is not only 1 war going on in BF2...
In BF2 the whole point IMO would be to be proud of having a certain rank. And that ranks would provide proof of a certain experience level. Unfortunately in BF2 the rank-system is a complete mess, and easily abused. Once upon a time, I'd imagine a rank that I'd achieved with a certain effort, and I'd be very proud of my rank. I'd think about all my hard efforts to get that rank, and so on. But in BF2 I don't give a damn about the ranks, cause it has been all messed up.
To illustrate some extreme issues in the BF2 community, I could mention "Lord of Weed", that had, before his points where erased, around 100 000 kills with grenades. Every time I thought about that I laughed a LOL, cause it's simply to crazy. This guy only used the support kit, didn't he also only use one gun and only played on one single map?
Something is definitely strange about this guy, but if he enjoys his time in BF2 I have nothing to complain about. I'd only think he might have had it a bit boring at times...
FireStarter has most points in the world right now, and has spent 4562 hours playing BF2 with 775,710 points. If he enjoyed his time playing at all times, that's fine for me (thumbs up). But if he didn't then he definitely needs some help.
These numbers talk for themselves,... but before I'd conclude if he is skilled or not, I'd rather play against him in person. Maybe he was skilled once before he got headaches of sitting to much in front of the computer? But it's hard to conclude he is skilled in BF2, if he only used one kit and threw nades. He might have been skilled with nades and the RPK.
If I spent 600 USD for a server, I'd actually expect be able to do whatever I like with that server.
If people like my rules, if there are any, they'll return to the server on a daily basis. But since Im openminded, I don't care if there are rules or not, I just want to play and have fun.
Depending on the mood, I could imagine having a server for claywhoring when I feel like it and another for Infantry Only with FF ON. These are just examples, claywhoring becomes quite boring after a short while. It's hilarious at first, but later I'd rather change kit or weapon.
The BF2 community is at times like a "nanny state".
