NVIDIA cards and random CTDS? Here's a fix

I'm reposting this here since not many people regularly check the support forum.

This things been annoying the hell out of my for the past week. If you're experiencing some kind of crashing with no error from BF2 and have a NVIDIA card, I recommend you try two things:

1. Try over clocking your GPU memory
2. Your drivers may be improperly installed/configured, they need to be reset

1: Download nTune and overclock your GPU memory by about 100 Mhz, this will greatly reduce any random black screen freezes. Overclocking can be found in Adjust GPU settings, be sure to test any changes before applying. If you fail a test go to a lower number.

2: You need to fix your drivers. Go to 'Add or Remove Programs' in the control panel and be sure to completely remove the program NVIDIA Drivers. Restart your computer. Go to the NVIDIA driver page and download the latest drivers, be sure to restart your computer from the previous step else you'll need to repeat the process. Once the drivers have been correctly reinstalled, restart and reconfigure your previous resolution/color/refresh rate settings.

I did both of these and my crashes pretty much disappeared, plus the game ran MUCH smoother with less freezes and loading. Hopefully this will help some of you.

Not trying to sh!t on your parade mate, but there are some nVidia GPU's that won't handle a 100MHz rise in mem or core speeds. I'd hate for an inexperienced PC user to clock his up and end up with a faulty card over something that someone posted on a forum.

Plus I fail to see how overclocking a card can reduce CTD.

Worked for me. Over clocking is relatively safe with nTune, it'll tell you weather or not that increase in Mhz is acceptable. Since I gave my memory that extra boost i've noticed much less system hanging while playing BF2. Before I had blank screen freezes for 2-3 seconds, this is a presumed fix for that. If anything i'd recommend just trying step 2 and then going to the over clock if your still getting freezes.

All my GFX issues in BF2 have been down to having the right drivers. It's worth downloading the older ones from NVIDIA sometimes. And just to point out, overclocking in any form is not safe, regardless of method used.

crash to desktops are not from drivers. they are in the game, everyone gets them, ati or nvidia. some people just get them more than others.
