Guys just some very quick and rough calculations ,

Ok i just opened up BF2 and counted the amount of Ranked servers that were available ( populated or unpopulated ) = 2046 .

That a lot of revenue there for Server Rentals / Ea .

If by my calculation the average server cost is about £45 ( $90 ) then that revenue per month is £92,070 or $184,140 per month . This is based on figures that a basic server is around £22 ($44)a month and a Super server being £90($180) a month . This is only ranked servers and ones that showed up online , i am sure that the final figure could be almost double .

I would guess server rental revenue for BF2 would be somewhere close to £1,000000 each year or $2,000000. Yes your read it correctly 1 million pounds ditributed between , EA / Dice and your freindly server rental guys .


Ea you have had these stats down for over a week now , THATS GONNA BE ONE **** LOAD OF REVENUE OUT THE WIINDOW WHEN PEOPLE START TO GET RIDD OF THESE SERVERS . Dont agree with me , then your a fool it will happen .

I wonder how close that figure is to ballpark? It could be a lot less as a result of inconsistant servers.

Remember, everyone gets their cut, not just EA.


But yeah, this issue should be resolved as owners are not getting what they paid for apparently.

$2 million is relatively a small number in comparison to EA's overall revenue: Their revenue for 2006 was $2.951 BILLION, so the possible lost revenue is an extremely small number to EA: only .0677% of the total revenue. Furthermore, I don't think EA directly receives that much money from servers, it has to be less else how can ranked server providers support themselves?

So no, I don't agree with you, specifically "****load of revenue."

We fully appreciate that this is frustrating both to RSPs and those renting ranked servers, as it is to gamers in general. The people working on solving this know that it's a serious issue and that's why it's getting their full time and attention.

EA does not earn every penny that people pay for renting a server.

so are the people renting the ranked servers getting a refund for lost time? not sure, cause u are getting 2 things, a server to play on, and the stats side.

Eye_of_God, the people that can fix this issue are not from EA/DICE, but from Gamespy and IGN, they are the ones who manage and maintain these servers.

Care to respond to these people who point out several of these "stat outages" then? It was the responsibility of IGN/Gamespy and yet from this thread, it seems they had problems of their own.

To me however, I only remember one incident before this one in which the stats servers were having problems, only lasted for two days, and it was LONG time ago. Two if you count the week in which several BF2 players were able to use all the unlocked weapons when they shouldn't have because of some bug or hacker got into the account/stats system.

yeah, I remember when the stat servers were down before, back in the day.
That only least like a weekend and everyone was back up like that monday or something.

I think the community response on that incident was a bit more harsh than it is on this to be honest...at least here several are more understanding...maybe it's that hope that every achievements and scores earned for the past week are saved
