Static because its less hastle. A moving mini map frustrates me and just end up getting lost and having to concentrate more on the map than my gameplay.
maybe for you, but i have ZERO problems with rotating map. It doesnt confuse me one bit. When i move around, i know where everything else would be in relation to me, so i dont get confused. Static confuses me, because i could be looking south, to the west, and i'd have to adjust where my eyes usually look to see whats in front of me, instead of just looking at the top portion of the map.

Exactly, with rotating it's much easier, when you see a blinking red dot on the map, to figure out "hey, bogey at 4:00" or whatever. If you're not familiar with a map, the rotating minimap could disorient you, but how often do you need the minimap to figure out where you're going on Karkand?

Also, when Im dogfighting, I sometimes create a "attack here" command to the center of the map, combined with a rotating minimap where you instinctively turn so that the mark is at the top, its easier to get out of OOB.

Those markers are very useful. Especially when taking out a rogue sniper :)

I've been using the rotating for a week or so, and I think I'm going to go back to the static.

I usually play with a friend and we use a VoIP. It's much faster to say a cardinal direction when the cardinal directions aren't moving about >.<

Also, it seems like the map screen takes longer to bring up since the rotation minimap has to reset to north before displaying the larger map.

                  I use the static minimap.

However, for jets and helos, I can see how a rotating map would be more beneficial. I'm afraid of heights though, so I never go in the air .

LOL....you are joking though......are't you

You don't have to pay more attention, you have a look up at it when you are running around.
Its like driving, you don't have to pay more attention when you look up in your mirror, and when you do look up you don't start to hit every parked car in front of you.

but its more confusing. I use the one where the north is always up not sure which one that is.

Static for me. Just used to it. I did try rotating but found static better when I was learning the maps two years ago. So it stuck. I do know the mini map is a very important tool and can help greatly in knowing what is going on outside your field of vision.

Here is another question about your mini map. What zoom do you use most? I like the middle one. Get a little close up info and a little far off info. I zoom in if I feel the need but almost never use the furthest out. Only in a jet or chopper and I hardly fly so.

I know the maps off by heart so it doesn't matter either way:p
