I think ppl who config there keyboard/mouse buttons are smart. I don't do it because a) I'm use to the defualts and b) just don't feel like it. Either way, whatever works - all the more power to you.

Okkkk I wasn't saying you need the greatest mouse in the world, for me its the G5, for you I dont know. Hell, the G5 isn't even the "top" mouse in terms of prices.

If I was to say the best is the G5 then I'd be going out of line... For me it is, nothing like changing your dpi levels depending on your situation. IE you want low low dpi for sniping for a steady head shot vs a fast moving cross hair. For flying the heli I like the highest setting so I can flip and twist and do all kinds of whacky things. Over all I use the mid setting though.

For me, my skill comes from my mouse. with out the G5 I blow. Too bad no one else shares a similiar thought. oh well.

Its obvious that you require both skill AND hardware to be the best.......
Hardware gives you an edge but you still need the skill.

I could never go back to using a standard mouse now. I have a Razer Pro 1.6 (1600dpi, 7 button mouse) and it's the shizzle !!

            Re: Skill or hardware?

I bought the MX518 a few months back. Then I used to play SWAT4 a lot and I was looking for a gaming mouse to suit me a long time before that.

So I got the MX518 and I can tell you what happened and what didnt happen.

I didnt get monster KDRs, I didnt get super top scores (although I used to play SWAT4 pretty damn good). All in all, if there was an improvement in score or whatnot, it was minimal.

But I dont regret the money spent, and heres why. After I got the gaming mouse, I do not remember noticing that any of my deaths came from anything else than my own lack of skill. Meaning, the hardware issue was gone. My crosshair went where I pointed it, when I pointed it, which means one- as a gamer, my potential was not limited by hardware (mouse) anymore, and it was surprisingly limited with a non-gamers mouse.

I'm not saying that I've got any skill (BF2 is my first FPS game) but my hardware is definently a handicap. I've got a standard keyboard and optical mouse, a mediocre video card, and a cheap 700kbps DSL connection that gets me a ping of 150 on a good day.

But hey, this game is still a TON of fun!

IDK my G15 broke for a week or so and the only thing i had was a ****ty ergonomic KB with low buttons, the opposite of the G15s high buttons and my kdr was near identical to before, the KB sucked *** but never made me a worse player, i did get alot better when going from 17-22in tho, and yea L85a1, best gun in the game, anyone who disagrees can STFU and learn how to play the game, because if they do not agree they havent mastered every gun like the real players. i think i know how to play

How do you master the L85? I am good with it at times, but then you get those days when you miss a guy when you aim at his chest from 30 meters. The bullets just wont go where you want them to.

the l85 is amazing i agree. Its got amazing power, accuracy (zoom in on guys heads) and power. Better than the E i think.

as for hardware, i probably wont buy a gaming mouse anytime soon, because it really seems too expensive. The only problem i have with my mouse is sometimes when i do a 180 too fast my mouse doesnt detect it, so my guy does nothing. not a big deal though

Well yeah a keyboard is a keyboard. It doesn't have the biggest effect on your gaming. It just sucks when certian buttons stick on poor keyboards.
IE the top 3 button on that laptop keyboard for a desktop got stuck. Couldn't use it when I needed it at times. Other buttons slowly repeated the process

As for the screen, you are prolly right sir. I too, use to use a 17in lcd by samsung. I was very happy with it for the 3-5 years (not sure anymore) I had it and still am but definately was time for a new one. Samsung's 206bw 20in widescreen just makes the game that much more fun =D

Too expensive? I can pick up a new logitech G5 for 40 bucks CDN. If your comparing that to a 10 dollar piece of crap I think it's worth the extra 30 bucks.

I use this mouse. The 3x fire button is crap for BF2 though.
But it's a good deal. Prize is betweeen 23 and 30 EUROS.

Yeah, this A4Tech company seems to be on the up.

Either way, I still say key mappings. I get about 5 paddle kills per round, sometimes more, sometimes less, because I got that **** bound to C. Fish floppers, your end is near.
