Random FPS drops

Greetings,

I have a geforce 7600 go...

I've tried a few things to fix this issue with no luck:

Updated nForce drivers.
Cleaned out the optimization cache.
Played with settings.

Here's the issue: I get in a game and everything will be running smooth (ie locked at 60 fps), now here's the weird part. I won't move and nothing new comes into the view area and my FPS will just drop to 20-30 fps for a few seconds then go back to 60...rinse and repeat.

Anyone know what may be causing this?

One of my friends just suggested that it might be punkbuster polling on my harddrive...which is a crappy 5400 rpm drive. I'm not at home so I can't verify atm, but does anyone think that may be a cause?

He suggested downloading pbsetup to update punkbuster. Does this sound feasable or related to my problem?

well nvertheless u should download pbsetup. it can help wtih connection problems and map loading times. but first...

wat are ur specs?
wat settings r u playing at?

and did u update ur video drivers? nforce sounds like motherboard drivers

Specs:
Intel core 2 duo @ 2ghz/core
2g ddr2 ram
nVidia gforce 7600 go.

Settings:
Textures/geometries/effects = high, for testing purposes I turned lights low, shadows off, and no AA.

There really isn't updated drivers for the 7600 go, at least nothing I can find. I tested this on both the stock drivers and also a third party driver (that seems to work quite well). In either case, the problem exists, so I think I've ruled out drivers.

Other then maybe the PB polling my harddrive, I don't know what would cause it to do this =/
