bf2 vista crashing

It doesn't even get to the ea/dice screens before it crashes.

It loads the bf2 splash screen, turns black like the resolution is changing and then crashes to the desktop. Any help?? Brand new vista install, fully patched and I don't think that it is a driver issue.

edit* I'm using the complete collection set.

Hello,
One thing,turn off UAC(user account control)
2nd thing another gig of ram.,although its not putting you to the desktop however once you do get there you will need it.
I have Vista as well and after I bought another gig of ram(2 gigs altogether)
It runs alot better.

More importantly, what is the video chipset on that laptop?

If it is any of the Intel Craptacular chipsets, I would be surprised if you ever get the game to run.

Most likely be able to point the finger at the video ...what do you have there? Setup Vista to run for performance ...don't let windows decide or run for appearance. If that doesn't at least get it to login, maybe post all the specs, and see if it fits minimum requirements.

yeah it is one of those crappy intel cards, but that shouldn't stop it from loading the game. I have noticed that when I run the EA EAsy info thing it says that my OS is unknown and so it fails the results. But that is the only thing failing on the list.

I also sent an email to ea support, hopefully they will tell me something but i doubt it

tbh the intel chipsets arent that crap. 945 can play 2142 so :p but thats because the bf2 engine has been upgraded and works better,

its a shame that few laptops can play BF2 otherwise it would be a cheaper investment

Hrmm, the guys at EA say it is my graphics, anybody know where I can get a good/decent laptop card. Or how I can get one installed? Is that even an option for me?

You can't upgrade your laptops graphics, the gpu is built into the mobo.

VIDEO REFRESH RATE IS WRONG!!!!!

Update your video drivers and make sure your resolution and refresh rates are set to something your monitor can handle before you launch BF2!!!!

Once in BF2 make sure you match your resolution to the one you are using for Windows, this way it does not need to change to launch the game!!!

With Vista, make sure you ...

Right Click Icon, Run as Administrator

If you just click on the .exe Application to launch the game, it will not run.

Laptops are not much of a computer to run higher end games like Battlefield 2 because their built in graphic cards truly suck for the most part. As EA said, if it's the video card that can't support the game, then you are SOL

ok... Im a having this same problem with the splash screen then back to desktop. It also says operating system "fail" after running the EasyInfo tool.
Here are my specs:
xp pro 64
nvdia 680e sli mobo
raptor 10,000 rpm hdd
core2 e6300 conroe overclocked to 2.95
8800gts with 630mb ddr3
soundblaster audigy
directx 9c
2 gigs of corsair xms 4-4-4-12 cas ram

I have reset my refresh rates to 60hrz and rebooted. Then made my screen resolution 800X600 to load the game. I have also tried turning off winlock refresh and running it at 100hrz (my monitor will run at 120hrz). I am at a loss here.... I have a machine that will lap up the game itself... IF I COULD GET IT TO LOAD heh. Any help would be appreciated.
