Punkbuster bites! Kicked for high ping of 20?

I can't stay in a BF2 game anymore because I keep getting kicked for "high Ping" when I have a ping of 10-20. My avg. speed for my connection is 18mb/s. My connection rocks. Ever since the new patch came out I haven't been able to play any more. I've tried re-installing (AGAIN!!!!!) with the same result. I love this game, but it makes me want to run at full speed, head-first, into a brick wall. No matter what server I go to....kicked! And yes, Punkbuster has been updated and both a and b services are running.

    WTF, Duck?

I get kicked for a high ping of either 316, 210, or 110.

Now the 316 yes it starts to lag, the 210 IS NOT EVEN BAD. The 110 is ****ING STUPID TO BE KICKED OUT OF!!!

I even get the whole "problem with connection" message for like two-three minutes and no kick, but yet when it jumps down to 110 or 216 I get kicked.

Punkbuster is a piece of **** they should use another program >_>

never heard of someone being kicked at 20 ping ...was it spiking or something? ..cause being kicked at 20 is nuts, and PunkBuster doesn't kick for ping, Admins do.

Sounds like you are being kicked by admins with the excuse "high ping". Try some different servers.

No. It is NOT THE ADMINS! I'm not a retard (although some who know me call me that occasionally). It does it on our clan servers and all servers. I get in the game long enough to spawn once, appx. 30 seconds, then kicked!
It freakin' sucks. I check my ping before it does it and it is always below 30; mostly below 20.
It clearly states "Punkbuster kick due to high avg. ping"

have u tryed reseting youre conection?

i.e if its a cable modem (re-set it) or unistall the software and re-install it.

you dont use wireless do you?

give use the specs of youre conection,

                type (cable/adsl
                speed(upload)

                network type(router with wan port)

broadband plug directly in to ur pc?

is it hard wired?(rj45) or usb? or wireless.

then ill see if i can help this strange problem.

You might want to reconsider that statement. While a high ping kick may show as a PB kick in the kick message, it is a server side setting that is controlled by the admin(s). Punkbuster itself never has and never will kick for high ping.

Regardless of what it says, that's what it is doing. It is definitely NOT my connection, as BF2142, and other games work fine with very low pings. I have isolated it to the game itself, just not what part of the game. It will kick me hard wired and wireless, every server, all the time.

It has to be something with punkbuster, my single player games work fine, and my network is fine. It actually kicks ***! Extremely low latentcy and very high speed.

A kick for high ping is set by the server admin, it is not naturally done by PB. It could be that it is incorrectly reporting back pings. Try rebooting your router, forwarding all the ports necessary. Make sure that you only have one firewall running. Multiple firewalls can cause strange problems like that as they fight over control of the internet connection.

Here is some stuff to look over:

Problem - Lag or Constant Disconnects from the Sever

                        Cause - System Dependant

Fix - Since this is system dependant or could be cause by several issues, i will list possible fixes.

                        1. If running a Dual Core processor, load up Battlefield 2, press alt-tab to go to your desktop. Open up task Manger by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL Once! Then right click on BF2.exe and set its Affinity to 0, Basically this tells it to use only processor 0, not 0 and 1.

See AMD Dual Core Gaming Fix Guide for more indepth solutions for Dual Core users.

                        2. Go to your BF2 Audio options, and disable VOIP. This can help in some cases.

                        3. Run Adware/Spyware Scans on your PC to remove unwanted software running in the background. Recommended tools for this are;

                        Adaware
                        Spyboy : Search & Destroy
                        Windows Defender
                        Spyware Blaster

                        4. Check your firewalls are not the cause of the problem. Try disabling them such as Windows Firewall, Zone-alarm, and ones inbuilt into Anti-Virus programs. You could also try disabling your Anti-Virus as well to see if it increases performance. This should only be done as a test to see if it helps and that if the Firewall/Anti-Virus is the cause of the problem, once you have tried it remember to turn your firewall/anti-virus back on.

                        5. If on a Wireless router try plugging it directly into the internet, to see if your lag is been cause by a bad router or interference.

                        6. In BF2 Audio Options, try running software mode instead of hardware mode.

                        7. if on a wireless connection this may make it better/worse, or do no change.

Once a connection is established go to run and type "services.msc". Scroll down until you see "Wireless Zero Configuration" and click stop.

                        8. Try updating PunkBuster, Use the program, pbsetup, found at this http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php to update Punkbuster

                        9. Change your BF2.exe file and rename it to BF.exe, or basically something different than BF2.exe (Update shortcuts if necessary) On some systems this can provide a performance increase as the graphic card will treat it as a normal game and not run any special optimizations which can actually reduce performance

                        10. Reduce number of PunkBuster checks

To do this you need to:

                        1. OK, the first step is very simple, join any BF2 online server which is running Punkbuster, preferably a ranked one.

                        2. Once you are in, and re-spawned somewhere, press the ` key. This key is located on most keyboards above the tab key and to the left of the 1 key

                        3. Once you have pressed this, a large white box should drop down with a load of text in it. Type pb_sleep 500 and hit the enter key

                        4. Once you have done this, make sure the box is still up and type pb_writecfg to save your settings

                        11. [Advanced Users Only] - (Important, Before changing msconfig startup or services, read Warlord's Warnings just below the contents page at the top of this FAQ) Type in msconfig in the run box, and disable unnecessary start up items to try and free up more ram/CPU, this can be more effective than using task manger to close them after start up. In addition check your services in Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services and use this guide to determine what is/not needed. Do note that editing services is about as bad as editing the registry so use extreme cation!!!

Also you can disable the Windows XP visuals to reduce ram/CPU usage, although Windows will look more like Windows 98 you may want to try it.

Right click on My Computer|Properties|Advanced|Performance|Settings for Best performance. This disables all the neat Windows XP looks and makes the PC that little bit faster.

                        12. You could try upgrading your internet to a faster speed, or connect to servers closer to your location

                        13. Disable/Add BF2 to DEP

To turn it off do this

                        Right click on my computer
                        Select properties
                        Select the advanced tab
                        Select performance options
Select the data execution prevention tab
Add BF2.exe to the list of exceptions OR turn DEP off completly.
                        Reboot

Ok ...if the problem was with PunkBuster, then it would happen to everyone (or at least a few), and since out of the million or whatever players there are out there, it only happens to YOU, then it must be an issue on your end. Until you at least acknowledge that, you are going to have a heck of a time fixing it. I would suggest to post or email PunkBuster, and see if they don't say the same thing. ..just a suggestion.

This happened to me with my BF2 special forces, i would be able to log on for about 20 seconds, or sometimes, i CTD, and then one day, it just started working again

Oh, it's a problem on MY end? Brilliant deduction, Sherlock! Thank you if you were trying to help (in your own obtuse way), but why do people reply to posts if they don't read the whole thing and spout off crap like this?

Anyway, thank you very much Signa for the console PB entry.

I think this did the trick. I signed on using a cingular air card on a 1mb/sec connection and actually stayed on a server for a good while, when before it was kicking me. If it works on this, it will definitely work at home.:salute:
