    (modifying) Player Name Displayed

    Hello,
I'm brand new here but reading through the posts this seems like a good place to ask my question. Basically I've noticed when playing with my friends at Lan parties that alot of conflict arises when one player begins head hunting another. And as I don't typically have a problem with this I do have a problem with all the bickering that follows. So my question is would it be possible to remove the over head name displayed for players. I've looked into it on my own but truth be told I'm not that good with file editing. My basic hope is that by removing the displayed name it would reduce people hunting down just certain people and thus keep the game more fun as well as more realistic, as no one really has their name floating above their heads. In any case I thank you guys for any help you can offer, and look forward to your thoughts.

Also I just remembered another question I've been thinking of, how would I go about removing uav/scans/artillery in a level. I enjoy playing sniper levels but hate it when people use the above mentioned items when its supposed to be snipers only. Thanks again.

So I did some more looking and found the answer to the displayed name question.

    Goto C:Program Files/EA GAMES/Battlefield 2/mods/bf2/
    and locate the GameLogicInit.con file.
Open it with notepad and add the following line,
    renderer.drawNametags 0

but.... problem with that is that it will remove the player tags for everything... so it will only be suitable in a separate mod

I'd still be interested in feed back regarding this as well any help with the uav/scan/artillery question. Thanks again

right click on the bf2 folder in /mods/
    click copy then pate
and then rename the directory :) you can then start the game by clicking on the community tab in BF2

Don't worry, my kid bruther also thinks they won't see you if you close your eyes.

What you mean if I close my eyes you can still see me?!?!
          LoL
But yeah I didn't even think about the no tags effecting only me, blast. Oh well I was just looking for a way to add a bit more realism to an already great game. Thanks for the input.

well to play together you'd have to have the same files as them anyway

so if you force them to use your modded version then they too will have no tags

though would this extend to friendly units aswell?

              Sars99,
Yes this mod does extend to friendly units aswell as enemies. I wasn't able to convince my friends to run the mod with me so I guess I'll just let it go. I like it though, it makes it harder to spot enemies hiding (as their name doesn't just pop up) and also forces you to make sure you're shooting at your enemy and not just a teammate. Perhaps I'm alone in it, but I think its a great step toward realism. Anyway thanks everyone for the input.

PR does it and to a certain extent yes its good, but the game wasn't intended for realism so i suppose with the whole arcade thing the name tags fit in

though it would be nice to have an option to reduce the name size, to just a line or just their rank insignia
