OMG I dont need a new video card after all!!

I looked at my video settings...all low until I realized that maybe my view distance scales had something to do with it when someone in a thread I posted said they can't wait for a new card because they are sick off playing at 53% scale.

I turned my view distance from 75% to 50% and now I don't lag anymore....the only lag I get is actual internet server lag now and it’s GREAT.
The first thing I did was play wake island and It was the most awesome thing I've ever done, it's like for the longest time I only had a demo of bf2 but now I can play all it has to offer.
Karkand and jalalabad are good maps but if you are spending your whole life on those maps then sux 2 b u.

If you have seen the precision bombing only with HUD video then basically that’s what I did.
it used to be that when I flew low I got the lag but High up I was fine, now I can bomb and strafe with ease, I made a squad and when the commander put up the uav I would zoom in and mark a single infantry man with an attack order (make sure you have enhanced reality turned don so you can see the attack order, left alt) then come around and strafe it, if was two or more guys in one spot I would use the precision bombing and put a single bomb right on target(btw although precision bombing with only HUD is good at all heights, it's better if you fly lower because the bomb will get there faster so its easier to hit moving things) and blow maybe two of them away.

I played infantry on daqing and mashtuur as well and with no lag it was the best thing EVER.

but all good things must come to an end...the next day(yesterday) I got kicked off my comp at home for 2 weeks  and now....I can only post at school with my l33t proxies.

When I get back what’s the next map I need to play?

Maybe I can play Special Forces maps without laaaag.
(I've done wake, daqing, sharqi, mashtuur, Karkand, jalalabad, Dalian)

It does change how far you can see. Try getting into a helo/jet. I'd rather play with all the graphics on low than only being able to see 50m infront of me.

            right, what does AFAIK mean.
so you say the fog is nearer? therefore obscuring you long vision.
and why do you have a name that shows x=35???

Me TOO, Edd soundslike you need something, not sure if its your card, or RAM, how much ram you have? IF you dont have 1.5GB or higher you can't run your graphics high, I have 1.5 GB & alll my graphics are on high, my view is 100% & yes it does matter about that. But mine at times get little lagg, not much. but i'm going to 2.5 so mine loads quicker only, not too mention it should take care of my sometimes lagg, i find inside the iron gator is where my lagg is the most.

i got a killer video card, if ya aint got one, ya outta get one.

go to this sight, take a scan of the bf2 requirements & see what it reccomends.

                  just tryn to help,:salute:

                        50% ? that sucks man
although i play on all low settings 800x600 and 100% view distance although i think max set for view distance for my pc is around 75%-80%

Hate to break up the performance party here lad, but the view distance is the absoulte last thing they recommend turning down. Becuase the smaller your view distance the more likely you'll get nailed by someone u can't even see.

I understand if it's what you have to do to make it run on ur comp, but if u don't have to, you should sacrifice all other settings before that 1.

                          Peace~

Oh and also, buying more ram, as mentioned is an excellent, and usually pretty cheap way to improve performance.

I have 2 Gigs of some generic brand and I can run BF2 at med. and some high settings w/ this rig. Now, this rig is 5 years old, so if it can run BF2 lol, just about anything could. Again a ram upgrade might be just what you need, I also upgraded the video card from a spec. 128mb a couple years ago. Nvidia 7600's are pretty cheap these days and a gurenteed pick for BF2. They come in AGP and PCI-E favors, depending on your needs.
                          3.2ghz Pentium 4(Original Clock Spd)
                          2GB Ram (667 mhz)
Nvidia 6800GT (The rather old AGP version!)

Now I don't have antialising on, and I run it at 1152x768 instead of 1600x1200

Lighting, Terrain, & Dynamic Lighting are at Med, Geometry at High (because having this at Med. actually reduces your ability to see ppl at far ranges) Textures at High (simply becuase the game just looks poor at lower settings, obviously you could handle this in return for good performance.)
                          View distance is at 90%

Re: OMG I dont need a new video card after all!!

I have about 750 GB of ram and my video card is standard...only thing now is...which one do I need to upgrade....video car4d or ram.

My video card came with computer and is like ati radeon express 200.

But even though I can get nailed form afar it's SOOOO much better than just playing karkand jalalabad ALL DAY.

btw precision bombing only with HUD is the best way to bomb in all situations, more accurate and you can drop 2 bombs in 2 runs then reload, much more likely hood of hitting a tank directly and taking it out in one run.

                            p.s IVE BEEN SPELL CHECKING

When I want to snipe it's fine because I don't lag when I open the scope so i turn the scales up and when I feel like infantry I turn them down, it's annoying but worth the xtra maps

Also fraps no longer lags my computer When I activate it there is no transition "lag".

So I'm going to make a video about Squad eladers marking targets on the ground with atatck orders, and fighter pilots using precision bombing with HuD to atatck them, or strafe them.

For price and ease of installation, ram's your best bet.

Just make sure you find out what voltage ram your motherboard uses, look up the name of the motherboard and find it's instruction manual, they almost always list the types of ram they can use.
Otherwise, if you get the wrong type it might not work.

www.newegg.com is a great place for buying ram, if u don't know about it already :).
Oh and the ati radeon express 200 is a motherboard, not a video card, however if your running off integrated graphics (the motherboard handling the video processing with a
"built in video card") I would be impressed that it ran at all, lol.
