BF2 on server windows 2003 network doe not save user settings

This has been driving me nuts for a couple of years now,,,,

I have a workstation on my home small business sever network that I play BF2 on. Each time I play I have to re-enter all of my playing settings because it cannot find my settings. I contacted the EA support... but frankly they were useless.

Because the "My documents" folder is in a different place it does not save the settings....

Someone must have found a way to get around this I hope... it is maddening!

    Any help out there?

    Thanks in advance!!!

Going on the presumption that your my documents is actually the "real" my documents (right click on my docs shortcut and make sure that the target is the my documents you have been using). I have no idea.

You should have a folder in your my documents called Battlefield 2, do you have it?

I do have the BF2 folder in the "My Docs" folder but **I believe** the problem with the server environment is that the "My Docs" folder my computer has does not reside in the normal "C:\Documents and Settings\user name" location.... it is on a network "\\servername\users\user name\My Documents"

I have seen the problem discussed but I never did manage to find a solution when I looked into it a year or two ago. I think it became a problem when one of the major updates came out... it was not originally like that. Even EA admitted it was a problem but I never seemed to get a solution out of them. I **think** I saw some conversations on the net that said there was a solution but I never followed up on it at that time.

I been playing a lot AND EVERY DANG TIME i fire the game up I have to reset all of my settings/controls/preferences.... I am just glad my rank didn't get lost.

        Thanks for the reply

Just to clear things up, your rank is not stored locally, it's stored on a GameSpy server.

Why you just don't map your network drive to example g: ? Then it's appears maybe like physical disc for Battlefield 2?

The problem is you are on a DOMAIN so your user profile is locked, if you have access to the server as an admin, add administrator rights to your account and I think there is an option to unlock the profile (its been awile).
If you dont know how you dont need to be muk'n around with the admin tools in server any-hows.

I am the Admin but I am not sure what you mean by unlocking the profile... I didn't see anything by looking. I have been told it is a location issue.... what a pain in the rear issue!

Create a symbolic link to the documents folder.

I'm not sure how you do it with network shares though.

Re: BF2 on server windows 2003 network doe not save user settings

Finally figured it out after many years and no help from EA....

In my C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\SERVERNAME\Users\USERNAME\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles folder WITH the game running (after starting and setting up preferences/settings)are all of the config files. I copied these and then pasted them into the my documents folder of \\SERVERNAME\Users\USERNAME\My Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles... or my normal "desktop - My Documents" folder.

                      It is all set!

If I want to make any changes that I wish to have saved I must do the above procedure again... but at least I do not have to re-set everything up EVERY DANG time I play like before.

Thanks you one and all for your efforts
