BF2 Play online trouble

I am new to the game and enjoy it very much in singleplayer.
I am trying to play the BF2 online part and I am not sure if there is setup on
my end that is needed. It tells me to login and from there it has the accessing account server and then goes nowhere. I have to 3 finger salute to close this to go back to the game.

Sometimes it does take ages to login, but I once had a problem where it just refused to do so and hanged there. Reinstall fixed it tho

dont use Play Bf2 Online icon/shortcut

just use "Play BF2" and just delete the Play Bf2 online shortcut cuz it looks for some rnadom server and takes forever to connect
