Thanks! What do you mean about Battleracer being underdeveloped? If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them :)

I still don't get it though. You say that you want something different and unique, yet you're saying all the current mods that do take BF2 in a different direction are "niche" and therefore don't count in your crusade for uniqueness. What exactly are you looking for? A mod where you're fighting aliens can still be defined as just glorified BF2.

I think there was a mod being developed for BF2, but was scrapped. BF2 Turismo or something? Thats a car world mod that I would appreciate. A total conversion. Something that takes the game and does something different to it.

For example, the car mod isnt really something a BF2 player would play for a prolongued time as there are better car games out there. Moving on to further demonstrate my point.

What exactly are you looking for? A mod where you're fighting aliens can still be defined as just glorified BF2.
Exactly, if you make it using the standard BF2 unit system. Every major BF2 mod project has always been a reskinned BF2. The few bold attempts excluded, FH2 being one of them.

As I said, a futuristic alien shooting COOP with completely redesigned and rethought combat phylosophy is an example of that "new" BF2 mod, with a pound of humour of course. Just to paint the picture.

Too bad Quake Wars got there first, otherwise an alien invasion mod would have been such a nice playground.

You see, once you go into the future with the concept, you have absolutely free hands to do whatever you want. Take Bf2142 as a benchmark for wasted potential.

And as said, there are games which PC players cant play. So why not go ahead and create a fully functional Ace Combat mod with progressive missions and COOP play to play through those missions?

        Twisted Metal BF2 mod aswell.

If youre looking for me to give you something specific what I have in mind, I dont have it. I just look at current modland, BF2 game and think to myself, why havent people done anything to it yet? Something tp push those limits, and not the games limits- but the limits of imagination of those who create the concepts of the mods.

So why would anyone play an alien shooter mod for BF2 when there are other better alien shooting games out there? Why would anybody play your Ace Combat mod when they could just play, uh, Ace Combat?

As for your "prolongued time" comment...I know this is going to sound like I'm bragging, but that's not the intention. Here goes.

Battleracer, released last October, has 14 servers running right now, with one of them populated. Every day, people are playing it, predominantly from the German BF2 community. Every weekend, I can hop on at around noon and expect to have a pretty good amount of people to race with.

Sandbox, released this January, has 20 servers running right now, 9 of which are populated. During the weekends, several servers fill up with 20-30 people each.

Eve of Destruction (great mod by the way), released just this April, also has 20 servers running right now, with only one person playing.

I would imagine October to May is a "prolonged" time. Maybe Battleracer doesn't fit your tastes, but that doesn't mean nobody else plays it. Same with Sandbox.

Maybe you should go and make a mod. Since you're so confident, I'm sure it would be simple for you to make one that will blow us away. Clearly, all these modmakers are idiots, creating crappy rehashes of BF2 because they don't stack up to your mental prowess. Have at it!

I said "why the hell not". But Im reinstalling BF2 at the moment just for the sole purpose of trying through every mod Ive heard about or seen that I havent tried yet.

And again, its a niche mod. For a group of people only. Im talking about something that would suit a wider playerbase.

Let me get this out of the way first so there would be no confusion. Youre a dumbas5, and have taken everything Ive said as an assault on BF2 mod community, which it isnt.

Again, reread what I said. "Alien shooter" is an example of the extreme case of total difference in the whole concept of a game. So it would be as far from BF2 as possible. As far from combat as we know as possible.

Battleracer, --- , has 14 servers running right now,
Sandbox, --- , has 20 servers running right now,
Eve of Destruction, released just this April, also has 20 servers running right now

              "Niche" my ***.
I dont get it. Either your being sarcastic or you have no idea what the word "niche" means. Go google it. Out of those 3 mods, 2 are 100% niche products. And niche doesnt mean the numbers of the players that play the mod, but the target market. Out of these 3, only one would target a wider BF2 player base.

Maybe you should go and make a mod. Since you're so confident, I'm sure it would be simple for you to completely redo the BF2 engine. Have at it!
Youre a complete idiot and a failure at this conversation. Words cannot describe the level of admiration and respect, aswell as sympathy, I feel for the mod teams who are doing as5load of work for nothing. This is a thread with a question "what if?!", and Im not pointing fingers and not blaming anyone.

Looks like you on the other hand feel underappreciated, so why dont you take that grief of yours and bugger off?

Re: When will the time come for something completely different?

So the whole point of this is to find a mod that suits everybody in the BF2 playerbase? That's impossible, not even vanilla BF2 fits everybody who owns the game. I think even Dice would be interested if you can find something like that.

Once again, stop assuming that nobody plays these mods.

ok chris just calm down,i liek the idea of the alien mod,but liek you have been saying it applies to only a small percentage of people just like most of the other mods, imn ot denouncing mods in any way i love the,but the reality is players will almost always want to play vbf2 cause thats the gameplay they paid for and want.

Youve missed the point, why doesnt that surprise me.

I dont need to assume anything, all I need to look at are the server trackers.

So what the hell is your point? All I see here is that you're disappointed because you don't like any of the current BF2 mods because they don't fit your tastes. And you're hiding that opinion behind a cloak saying "BF2 mods aren't unique and different enough!" And you're saying the mod makers are doing a bunch of work for nothing. Good for you?

"tastes", awesome. If I didnt like the mods I would have written it earlier.

Youre a moron. Reread what Im saying- Im surprised that there arent any mods out there that would stretch the game towards a new direction. I would like to see that mod come true one day. I do not discredit any mods out there at the moment.

And in your infinite wisdom you actually assume that I think its the mods fault. Good for you?

But people have posted mods that do stretch the game towards a new direction. It just doesn't seem to match up with the direction you're pointing.

By the way, the constant name-calling makes you look really childish. Just thought I'd mention that.

I see a difference between a minimod that was sparked out of an interest to do somethin fun and akward and a full scaled mod that could directly compete (at least to some extent) with BF2 itsself.

That reminds me of Desert Combat - it didn't "compete" with BF1942, it actually helped sell the game. And thousands of people played it, and still do.

Problem is, it was just "glorified BF1942," so it should've failed, ehh? :p
