Battlefield 2 will not install

Hi ,

Recently rebuilt my PC , and now when I try and load battlefield 2 in fails


You start the installer and see the "battlefield 2" screen all ok

then , you see a "Preparing Set-up screen" its start s to load data and then flashes and disappaears


I have tried everything I can think of , ( removing all files related to Battlefield plus registry and re-running install . Check ed for System error messages but no joy .

Battlefield 2 used to work on this H/W set-up so confused - thinking O.S patch or something strange like .

Anyone seen this and ideas

What are your full system specs?

Also tell us what gfx drivers & sound card drivers you are using

I have CD install for Battlefield 2 and a downloaded install for Battlefeild 2042 of which they both fail with the same issue . Henc ei have concentrated on the BAttlefield 2 CD install first .

Windows XP or Vista, 32 or 64-bit? Are you logged in with an administrator account? Also, I think what Bogo meant is do you have some CD/DVD emulator software installed like DAEMON Tools, Alcohol 120%, Nero virtual drive, etc.? Daemon Tools should not cause a problem if installed correctly but the others might. Some games refuse to install if Alcohol is detected, even if the virtual drive component is disabled.

Try this dude

Delete or move the Battlefield 2 folder in My Documents, it has you keyboard and video settings etc. Best is probaly to delete to start from fresh install.

Open registy database with regedit.exe and find and delete the keys listed in BOLD below, and thus all settings they contain.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\DICE\Battlefield 2(TM)]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\{04858915-9F49-4B2A-AED4-DC49A7DE6A7B}]


I had the same problem did the above then reinstall and patch with the latest version

Updated firmware for your CD ROM or whatever you are using drive? On the help guide that comes with BF2 it says that if you dont have the latest firmware you can experience problems during the install. If you are going to flash your drive be sure it's the right firmware or you can damage your drive

This is now reolved.

The manual uninstall procedure had a extra step in it that I had missed.

A certain OS file had to be deleted to cure this .
