A request to "Wannabe" Film Makers

Don't, just don't.
What I mean by this is, Don't even try your hand at ANY thing real editor or film makers do, It's alot harder then it senses. Windows movie maker is one of the worst program ever made, No true editer would EVER use it. If your thinking of makeing a film you think is a good idea like jet sturts or just killing people, DON'T! Because
A: Their are already Thousands of BF2 videos on that stuff, most pretty badly edited.
B: You possble have no XP in editing what so ever.
and C: They will never come out good, unless you know how to edit
Also PLEASE stop asking us every damn question possible about editing, where to buy the editing program, and how to use it. If you want to know about this stuff, GO to the book store and read some books on it or go on the net and read some stuff about editing. That is how most of us editors learned our stuff, or some when to college for it.

I'm not against them. Eye expects them to be amazing but like i said they aren't. I enjoy watching them cause i suck at ranked so i look at the amazing skills that some of these guys have.

But to say that their purpose is NOT for editing...just seems a bit ignorant(no offense, just a general statement).

Editing in frag films and machinimas are two completely different things. I made a thread here earlier about a Quake 3 trickjump video called Vertizontal. Go check it out.

Frag is more action, effects, and syncing. Which does take skill, and can be just as difficult as some of the best mahcinimas.

Machinima is a more balanced form of connecting video and audio with setting the mood correctly.

Two styles...but to say that one is void of editing...eh...kinda going out on a limb.

I was going to go off on Eye of God for making this thread, but it gives me an opportunity to say what i'm feeling on this subject.

From personal experience, The process of creating a video game is hard, tiring, stressful work.

I joined Sir in August 2006, as a average photoshopper. Y'know, nothing special, just enough for people to say "Hey, that looks good." Anyways, I'd seen Sir's and Snoken's movies and wanted to get in on the action. I initially wondered how hard can it be?

My first attempt, absolutely sucked. It was awful. It made no sense, I piled on the effects and just raped the crap out of it. Nothing came of it. Next film, A big action film called Codename Phoenix, I got a little cool intro done with a Sir. Sign that i'd made but still no success. Third effort, a Christmas video. That was definately my best work thus far, but still lacked sense. It was nice, but didnt make sense, so thus you never heard of it. Anyways, Couple months later. I came back with Terrible Tunak, and it was the first time, I was pleased with my work. I'd seen progress in my work. It wasn't brilliant, but it was a foundation to build on. From then on, I've kept my films relatively small in length and also in people's involvement, allowing for less complexity and better story. I mean, two US soldiers buying dope in a cave, who knew! :)

But, I'm ready to take the next step, and go for a more story based film with more actors and more glitz. Basically, what i've learned is that you need to learn to breathe before you can run.

WMM is the best possible program to start with. I'm serious. It's drag and drop, then render. When you first start, start at the bottom. You can do a suprising amount in WMM, with Fraps and BattleDirector. Remember, nobody gets it right first time, or even the 2nd time, but it gets better. Keep making them, whether it's frag movies or random ranked footage or just two guys teabagging each other then being blown up by C4, you're gaining experience.

The internet is a huge resource, so use it. Search for tutorials. Think up ideas, do they make sense? Are they practical? Can you spend enough time on them?

O yeah, just bash me, just because I was the only one to say anything against helping others who are just looking for an easy way to a hard art.
Don't get me Started on you Alpha, I can say alot of crap about you, but I won't because I'm more mature then you.
Also Alpha, I was not trying to be an A hole, I and I bet countless others are tried of reponding to people who ask the same questions about it, and want simple answers and want us to explain EVERY bit of Info to them.

To RKO, You are a good editer and you know what your doing, but sometimes your ideas are a bit odd. Sometimes odd humor, but it's all good in the end. I am not saying that if you guys want to help people who want to get into this stuff, but all I am saying is that if they want to do it, then ask you, alpha, or me or anyone else who is a really good editer.

It is not about the fact that you were asking me how to do a video effect. Its about you complaining about people who ask for tips on video editing, when you do it yourself.

Also, everyone has the right to make a bf2 video...even if they are the worst editor in the world. Who are you to tell them otherwise? It's up to you to decide which of these videos you want to watch, and that is all. One day, you may realize how much of an idiot you sound like.
