Strange video lag.

I just bought a e-Geforce 880 GTS with 768MB of ram. I know the card can run BF2.

But when I set it to max settings in the options - video section, all of a sudden it takes about 30 second to click any menu option. I click multiplayer, 30 seconds later it goes to the available servers. I click refresh, about 30 seconds later it refreshes. No matter what I click in the menu screen, it takes forever. If I reset back to medium or low settings, it goes back to normal. Why would this be?

The card should more than be able to smoke whatever BF2 requirements there is. I have the latest drivers and DirectX.

just wondering...how much system RAM do you have?

did u remember to clear the cache files after applying new settings?

did u uninstall the old card and install ur new one right?

first of all 8800 GTS does not have 768mb ram :P , second what are you other components ? if you have some stock AMD or some bad Intel CPU it holds lots of performance back , to fully enjoy ur graphic card power. And if you have 1gb sys mem then you wont be able to run BF2 max anyway.

As for my other components, I just bought a brand new gateway - dual core. With 2 gigs of ram.

As for clearing cache's correctly, I do not believe I did that. Is there a link to a post that describes that action correctly?

I uninstalled the previous card. Is there a "wipe" action I can do to uninstall all graphics drivers and reinstall from scratch without formatting?

Download this driver cleaner, which will remove akll the gfx drivers you previously had. the reboot your system & install the drivers which have been stating above.

Scroll to this folder..

C:\Documents and Settings\your name\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache & delete it.

Alright, I've uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and card. I've used driver cleaner to remove all Nvidia - anything. I've reinstalled using the recommended drivers by tweaksrus (as per the poster above). I have deleted the "cache" files as instructed.

Now, I no longer get that menu lag. I actually get into the game. I play about 30-60 seconds, and then the game freezes. You can tell it's not completely frozen, but essentially nothing is moving. Occasionally there's a frame update, and usually after about 45 to 60 seconds later, I get the complete freeze, complete with sound looping.

At that point I cannot alt-tab, I have to do a cold boot.

I appreciate the help thus far. I'd hate to think I bought this card for nothing.

The gfx card could be faulty!!

When your computer freezes, and after rebooting can you go into the BIOS and check the temp of the gfx card. But i think this maybe because the card could be faulty.

On another note can you tell us your full system specs & what kind of PSU have you got? ie 400watts?

If you take off the side panel to the case & look at the side of the psu it will tell you what the power is.

Also on that gfx card there is a port where you need to plug an extra power supply dongle in. Have you done this?

Power supply is 700+ watts. I went and got the biggest one knowing the vid card needed more.

Yes, I plugged in the extra power plug for the vid card.

I'm beginning to think the card is faulty as well - even though I just got it. We're going to run a test (my brother and I) with a similar card tonight. He has almost the same card, and we'll swap them out and see what happens.

Yes, I plugged in the extra power plug for the vid card.

You should run Driver Cleaner in safemod .

Yep, it was the video card that was bad. How about that crap? Two video cards purchased from Newegg.com in the last 7 months. One went bad after the 7 months and the replacement was bad on opening the box.

How's that for qualifty assurance?
