Single Player CTD

I'm a new battlefield 2 user and have just installed the lates,1.41 patch.
Now although I'm not having any problems with the multiplayer mode, when I click on a mission in single player it crashes to desktop, whether straight battlefield 2 or special forces.
Any help would be much appreciated as I'm sick of being constantly killed in multiplayer and need some practice first!

Do you have any mods or user-made maps installed? Are all maps crashing or just certain ones? Does it crash instantly or part-way through the load process?

Thanks for your reply.

It crashes to the desktop whenever I choose a map and select to join it.
I have no mods installed and this only began happening when I installed the patch.

If you're using your online account for SP, try creating and using an offline account instead.

If it only started happening since the patch was installed I would assume it didn't install right or that the patch is not compatible with something in one of the configuration files. You may need to reinstall. You could try deleting all the profiles in the My Documents folder first (you'll need to retrieve your BF2 online account and re-do any customized controls after doing this).
