in all reality, it's almost important enough to mention twice. too many times I see people flying as anti tank or sniper... no kit will benefit more than medic, as a matter of fact I think no other kit benefits a pilot exept medic.

I have another small tidbit that might help on some maps. this works if you have a commander on board who listens and will help you. on maps like kubra dam and dragon valley, if your airfield gets capped you can still rearm and repair. keep in mind this is only if you feel you must get rearmed and repaired, personally in that situation i just steal the enemies fighter, to repair and rearm your jet you have to be able to land your jet in the red area on the edge of the map. youll be out of bounds if you get out of your jet but youll be ok as long as you stay in your jet, the black border is your out of bounds for a jet.

now assuming your commander is on board, you should give him at least a minutes notice to what yoru doing so the supply crate is ready, now have him drop a supply crate right next to your plane. it will rearm and repair you, now this works best if you can land anywhere, which takes a litte practice but I've had people screaming hax when ive done this. also you get around 5 bullets at a time flying by supply crates, which helps a bit sometimes. I can personaly reuse the same crate over and over, just landing near it and approaching it on the ground, takes about 30 seconds from start to finish, you will be vulnerable hence the reason for being in a remote area when you do it.

like I said this is more of a novelty than a basis to build your fixed wing tactics around but it does come in handy in very specific situations, P.S. I'll save you the trouble of trying this on wake, there are enough u.s. fighters on wake that if you lose your airfield, steal one of their fighters, the f18 is usually very easy to steal when your airfield goes hostile, check the carrier time to time often times with the airfield capped, people see two fighters on the radar and forget a second f35 will spawn on the carrier. Once again, these are more novelty than meat and potatos, DO NOT make this your Plan "A" when flying.

Great guide, anything about timing to release flares?

I find I gota do it at different times for different stuff.

game pad joystick, as long as you have a designated throttle on it, and a twist handle so you can use your rudder. you can get a logitech flight stick for under 30 bucks, I suggest you get one or an equivelent, do NOT get a flight stick without a rudder control... trust me.

BTW if you set your sensitivity all the way up on your helo controls like you should with your jet, you can fly attack helos very well with a flight stick, I'm not a helo whore so that advice you might want to take with a grain of salt, personally I can make a helo do a lot more with a flight stick than m+k, IMHO.

As for flares, try to get in a rear view, when they are a couple of jet lenghts behind you drop flares, sometimes you want to just drop flares because you want to break the lock, sometimes missles track through flares and still hit you.... with all jets, so it's a trade off, if you wait for lock on you, you roll the dice in exchange for time to evade a second or two longer. dropping earlier sometimes avoids the lock alltogether making evading a sure thing... but you have less time to evade... there is no lightning in a bottle, your going to have to also get a feel for when people fire missles, some spam all at once, some fire one, then spam the rest after you drop flares, some fire 2 at a time soem only one, watch what hes doing and counter, or better yet, analyze what your doing wrong, if he keeps enaging you first, and fix it, maybe your flying too low? if your a defensive flyer its just a matter of time before you get shot down, he doesnt have to hit you every time, just once and your done, so reduce your exposure, be offensive as much as you can, I use my rear view more than flares, flares I generally use for unexpected ground aa, and ground aa needs to have the flares dropped before they get lock, ground aa has a very short lock time and youll learn to reckognize it by sound alone.

You dont need twist handle joystick for rudder control. I never needed it. You will become less accurate with machine gun on the ground targets, but you will gain simplicity in aerial combat.

I flew with Attack 3, it doesnt have the rudder, colony is flying with Attack 3 aswell.

As for choppers, sensitivity doesnt matter, default settings are fine. Plus, BF2 sensitivity settings do not have any effect on sticks, you need designated software for that.

I use the Attack 3 with buttons 4 & 5 set for the rudder. It works fine and as you said, I think it's easier to re-align for targets, especially DPV's and FAV's. :p

On the subject of the Attack 3, has anyone found that after a while you have to re-calibrate it in control panel after every computer restart. I've had my current joystick for about a year and I've had to do this for the last month. :hmm:

Sorry, but i disagree chris, twist handle all the way, it's much simpler, much more intuitive and there is no loss in accuracy whatsoever. sensitivity is something that needs to be adressed per controler since they are all different, as far as logitech, the only thing you need to do is intall the software and raise the sensitivity to 100 percent, so yes the sensitivity does matter in joysticks, fly before and after doing this and the difference is very clear.

A and D win this argument. Theres nothing simplier than pushing a key. As I said, you will lose strafing tracking accuracy, but not significally. Ive been using A and D since day one and last time I played I used both the twist handle and A and D at the same time. AD work better for me. Besides, Im constantly playing with speed anyway so its only natural that I get maximum strafing speed in a blink of an eye once I push the keys. You dont get this with rudder handle otherwise youre risking losing what makes twist handle better than the keys, constant and accurate tracking of a horizpntally moving target youre strafing.

Logitech Profiler is sh!t . Try DXTweak2. Twist handle is overrated, loss in cannon accuracy has given me unpredictable and "open" flight.

chris, out of all the better pilots I know, your the only person I know who flies using this configuration I dont know if the rest of us just got used to using the twist handle but I can shoot individual infantry at the last second while doing flybys. I pluck swimmers out of the waters also. it's not as hard as you make it out to be.

as for delay, I'm not sure what your talking about, I dont have any with my 3dpro, are you sure you have your software setup right? if I turn it all the way, I move all the way. I can also feather it slightly but it's really quite versatile and easy to use.

the only way I could see this being a problem is if your deadzones are not set right, you have to begin witha neutral stick, if you have drift in any direction it need to be corrected through your deadzones.

as far as the logitech software... yes it is $hit on a shingle, but it works, and without it your not getting the most out of your joystick.

BTW, chris what server do you fly on nowadays? what are your stats? are you on the west coast, east coast or even in north america or europe? it would be fun to fly with ya tommorow or the next day. just meet me at winnipeg fragmax server or drunken masters, im in one or the other.

History. Ive gone from K+K to M+K to J+K and now I have a joystick that has a twist rudder. A and D are natural to me. Peculiarily enough I use BOTH A and D and twist handle. I can pick off anything anywhere just that tracking down choppers and moving armor is harder.

Im talking about the negligible difference between an analog input devide against a digital one. On the other hand you can easily recognise a keyboard and joypad player by his vastly superior sensitivity and response.

With DXTweak2 you get FAR more out of your stick, you can trust me on this.

Im eurotrash playing on East Coast servers. I havent played for monts though, since September at least, but since the TBF2 event is closing in Im going to need some practice, Ill hook up with some of you as soon as I get a free moment.
