    Spotting Enemies: Theory and Practicum

Again, this has been covered in the forums previously but it apparently needs repeating.

First, I will dispel two myths:

    1) Spotting out enemy infantry and vehicles multiple times does NOT make the red dot appear longer in the mini-map. This is true for lone wolves, squad memebers, squad leaders, and commanders.

    2) Once an enemy has been spotted by a teammate it does nothing more than add noise to the airwaves to also spot it out.

I think the reason players spot things out multiple times or spot things out that have already been spotted out is because spotting out enemies is some how analogous to shooting them. It's a testament to the arcade style of play of weapon spamming to get kills.

    Thank you and good night.

    Yes......
    ok......
I've seen two of these types of threads from you now....
tips and tricks? Or do you just like to add to your post count?

Good advice, but it seems like you are just posting this stuff for the heck of it.
*but yes, i do agree, I HATE massive spams! especially from the commander!

I don't think this is true. Do you have proof?

I agree multiple spamming in a row may not be very beneficial. I spot important objects, and then I respot after awhile(or upon disappearing), if the target is still there.

I do think that commander spam sucks though.

i spot more than once because in the heat of battle, i dont have time to spot, make sure it worked, and if not spot again, i spot everything twice in quick succession just incase i get a hostile forces spotted on the first one, due to a fly or some thick air in the way . also if you spot something, then just before it dissappears spot again it does NOT reset the *spotclock* meaning they will still dissapear off radar after the time has passed from the first spot. IE...see a jet, spot it, it flies by again 5 seconds later still blinking, spot it again but it dissapears 1 second later forcing you to spot it again.
and for GOD SAKES if you are on the ground and a jet flies by spot the damn thing, you have no idea how important that is to your own air assets. or how about that tank raping your spawn, i died about 13 seconds ago at a flag far away, i am about to spawn assault at hotel, and low and behold a tank is there raping it up, if it had been spotted i would have come in there a much different kit, as would anyone else with a brain, and that tank would not be raping you for the next while.

The problem is, after spotting a target, it may appear to disappear off my mini-map shortly after - perhaps 5 seconds - so I promptly spot it again to keep it actively on the screen, either for myself, my squad or my team to know it's position. Blame the developer for making the message annoying to see and hear in the game...

How are any one of us to know if someone else has spotted the target that I just spotted? The spotting feature is in the game, we should all use it.

That being said, blame the developer. They could have easily made it so that the spotting message is only broadcast to members within [predefined radius] of the spotted target. Why someone spotting a sniper on the other side of the map has any relevance to me - blame that lack of ingenuity to DICE/EA. Thus you have spam. I would have liked to have seen an option in SOUNDS to turn off the broadcast messages, so that only the spots would show up on the mini-map instead, but noooooo... beyond DICE's programming ability.

No, it's mainly due to the retarded bug of spotting a target, and it won't identify the target on the screen, and 80% of the time simply displays "?" even though you have a clear Line-Of-Sight to the target. Therefore you're forced to spot it again to make sure it says "Enemy APC spotted", etc.

this isnt a tip or trick, its just fact that many ppl seem to not know....

ive always known this and i only spot things that are NOT highlighted red on the minimap.....if i spot something, i wont spot it again until its no longer on the minimap....

this should all be common sense by now, but i still see enemies being spotted 12 times by the same guy, and 8 times by another while its still present on the minimap

OP: What if you are trying to spot multiple enemies, but you always spot the same one in a group?

It happens especially with that stupid azz "taunt" of spotting dead enemies. I will often spot enemies twice when the situation needs attention (like look at the 4 guys taking that flag) or when I think the flashing dot will dissapear off the map (about 15 seconds I think).

And making more noise does not mean friendlies hear you better? Most people seem to just ignore spotting anyway.

Re: Spotting Enemies: Theory and Practicum

When you see a sp ops approaching a tank on a flag it's hard not to spot repeatedly when he's obviously not reacting to the first time, I've done this a many many times and seen the tank spring to life at the last moment and survive, then hit a thanks after or type something into the console.

Thing with spotting is to avoid the 'scan and spot everything' routine, your teammates just switch off. You spot important or relevant targets only and watch how people take more notice.

If there's a large number of enemies coming my way, I end up having a competition with the commander

If i'm a gunner in a chopper i always spot enemy helicopters more than once to grab the attention of the pilot.

a gunner in a chopper should be spotting anything of importance for the heli, and thanking the pilot alot, you have a better view..use it. any gunner that doesn't spot a thing does NOT belong in a chopper.
