I got 2142 a few months ago never played it until the attack of the connection problems (for me at least) in BF2. Apart from the BF2 mods, I don't play BF2 anymore, and as soon as the next battlefield comes out with the new engine, I'm sure I'll quit 2142. As for BF2 patches, I will be very surprised if even one more patch comes out for BF2. It's gotten to the point where it's the new cs 1.6. I'm sure people will keep playing BF2 for years and years, but the majority of people who play for fun and not for stats will just move on to what's the newest, freshest rendition of what is now not so fun...

I'm sure this is the way Dice/EA sees things, as this makes the most business sense. They don't make money on patches, they make money on over-hyped, low supply releases on multiple platforms with a year of pre-order and store specific 'incentives'.

This game is almost two years old and I still play it regularly...its undoubtably the game that I had most fun with over the course of my "gaming career" and I'm 40 years old and play video/computer games literally since pong. I got my moneys worth and so did countless others...and the mods still breath new life into it.
I can fully understand that DICE has moved on...more power to them. With the recently released shots of the new frostbyte engine I can't wait for there next title.

I hope there all working the next generation, bf2 is great, play it all the time. Roll the Quake wars though :)

It was pretty obvious the last patch WAS THE LAST. I can't believe people actually thought EA was going to do another one for BF2.

They'll pull the plug on the ranked servers just about the same time Quake Wars and Frontlines: Fuel of War hit the streets. Perfect timing.

yep wishful thinking alright, tbh not many games have had so many patches, but maybe its a sign of the current state of gaming, releasing 80&#37; finished products, at least they did patch bf2 and threw in Wake & Jalalabad & infantry only. Look at the state of Vegas, i thought the BF2 server browser was bad, you dont even have ping rates in the Vegas browser so untill you play for 20 hours online youre never sure if its your rig or net that is making it so slow, and theres no sign of them patching it other than crappy patches fixing obscure stuff, grrrr
