I think if theyre going to use the info for a new BF game there will probably be a small patch to tide everyone over as a gesture for those that didnt move to 2142, but i could be wrong :)

The reason they're dodging the issue is the fact that BF2 is still on store shelves. If they just admit "Oh, yeah, no more patches, this game is dead" the word will spread and fewer people will be inclined to buy BF2 if they haven't already. They're still milking a bit of money from it. The community of players doesn't matter, this is pure PR and sales.

At least that's my take on it.

I can't be the only one who doesn't really care, can i? The game is fine as it is, there could be improvements but i rather enjoy the game for what it is instead of b*tch about what it could be.

Less patches the better.

I agree there, its a bad time for them to say the game is no longer supported, even recently there has been a huge glut of bf2 noobs on the eauk bf2 forums

I normally play for a few days constantly then dont play for a while, so if i wasnt playing i would agree with you, but stupid things like the map coming up twice after you join a server whiule some guy kills you( also in bf2142 apparently lol ), or not being able to jopin any squad when youve died even if youve just joined the server, or for team balancing switch lone wolfs first, very simple things to fix, but really irrating when you are playing, youd never guess im in the middle of my few days session

WOW. Was Nov '06 when the last patch released? I gave up all together a month or 2 before that. I still miss the REAL BLackhawk. The mods were the only thing keeping me around after the fiasco laiden patching. Had many great hours of fun on it though. I got my $50 worth (and never bought any boosters!)

Agreed, a very good game for us folks who stick with games along time, some people play a game for a few months, and never play it again, but BF2 is well worth playing for a long time.

Especially with all the great mods coming out.

Look at this, EA just released the BF2 Collectors Edition with all the various packs in one. They also released not too long ago the Booster Packs on a DVD for retail sale. Regardless of what people hear and think, they are still marketing BF2 and are still making money. That is the bottom line, when the game stops making money then they will stop supporting it. I think we may yet see another patch for BF2, with that I wouldn't expect miracles ethier. BF2 is one of the best FPS games ever created with a massive fan base and following. Regardless of its flaws, that fact remains, til something else takes that away from BF2 (BF2142 couldn't do it) EA still has its Ace and to throw it away wouldn't be wise to there wallet nor there customers.

Consider the fact that 2142 is buggy

2142 was never as buggy as bf2 was. And it took DICE way less time to fix a lot of those bugs in 2142 compared to bf2, fyi.

IMO, 2142 is the better gameplay choice.

No they don't make money, that is one of the biggest myths of BF2, however they do save money by not having to provide as many servers if any.

Anybody who played BFV would remember the final patch which was meant to be 1.20 but ended up being 1.21 That was what I would call a super patch. Maps, tunnels, new vehicles it had it all and they also told the community it would be the final patch.

Will we see something similar for BF2, I doubt it! They are now too arrogant to even say support for BF2 is over.

Whether DICE just wanted this for info for a new BF game, getting info from the community with the hope of patch remains to be seen

The EAUK forum admins/moderators have nothing to do with the game itself, they just forward a list of things to DICE. It's all bogus, there are no developers working on BF2, there never will be any longer.

There is a small staff (2-3) taking care of the last ranked servers, which are set to be phased out by Q4 2007, including stats servers as well.

I very much doubt that the stats will be going in 5-8 months considering the glut of new people, well i would be unhappy if i bought BF2 now, started getting into it and a few months later all my stats are wiped and i can no longer log into the game because Gamespy hold the accounts & stats which EA have to pay for, so we wouldnt even be able to play online

It doesn't make sense indeed, but ranked servers are going to be phased out so there's no point having stats if there are no ranked servers left...
