Weird thing happened, is it a cheater?

I was playing lastnight on an infantry only server on Mashtuur.

I followed a player called propaganda around the corner near that big building that the snipers always climb near the backyard flag.

And I went prone as this guy was halfway up the ladder, I proceeded to shoot at him, and he totally vanished, only for him to appear from around the corner on the other side of the street and 1 shot and I was a gonna!

Is this just a glitch? or has anybody had a similiar incident?

He only seemed to maybe get killed 3-6 times a round and he was always up in the 20's 30's for kills

For someone that was always in the thick of the action that seems very low death ratio, on a 64 server! As a sniper I could understand it but he wasn't

Actually he was MEC and he did bare a striking resemblance to David Blane

Welcome to the forums...it's kind of hard to imagine someone vanishing in BF2. But there are so many random bugs popping up it wouldn't be too far fetched.

My guess is lag. He possibly slid down the ladder while you or him were lagging. I can't picture someone just...vanishing...

My guess is the "troop" you saw was his dead body. He probably got killed climbing the ladder (you said it was a common spot). Then, he respawned in time to see you looking at his carcus, and the rest is history.

It was a dead body on the ladder, as it disappeared, he spawned in, right behind you cause you were probably near the spawn point, and he killed you..

I agree with BONTEMPI I think this is some kind of bug, glitch, or cheat. I havent seen anyone disappear but I have seen several suddenly appear in a spot that they shuldnt have. The best example, Ive seen, was an enemy soldier appeared on the I beam between the buildings at the construction site on the Sharqi map. I was attempting to defend that flag and watching my mini map and looking at the flag. Then there he was, shooting at me. (He did the suddenly appear thing 3 times that I saw, during the round) There was no enemy squad leader or spawn point and we held that flag at the time. I know that there is a way to spawn anywhere, I saw that cheat in a list of cheats, in a gameing magazine, for BF2. They had several games listed in the cheat section and at least 3 or 4 cheats for every game listed.

Anway, Ive seen the reappear thing so BONTEMPI dont feel alone. The only thing that I know to do is to leave the server and dont go there again or stay close to a group of players on your team. There is some safty in numbers you know. . . . . . . . . . .Red

last night playing a 32 sized karkand, well within a few minutes we capped all of the MEC flags but one guy was still alive, our uav blew up so we knew he was at our main, he was killed game over...nope, seconds after he was alive and neutralised the train accident, he was killed before capping it, but wait this one guy appears 15 seconds later only to neutralise the suburb, ok wtf, as people are spamming in chat what the hell was going on, he got raped at the suberb and next thing we know he neutralises and caps the last flag across the river, as our whole team was around suberb and hotel. now that is a wtf round, sure proof of a cheat. i have seen this before but ive never had proof and just chalked it up to something happening that ive missed, at least i got some sniping in under the train accident :p

I have read somewhere that there is a team switch hack, dont know exactly how it works but maybe that was it, Ill see if I can find that read

I was playing Zatar Wetlands and at the very beginning of the round (i'm always 1 of the first in) an enemy spawned in our main and started to shoot me as i took the transport heli to the middle. There was no way he could have got there legit. either hack or bug

i dunno, i can get to the middle and cap the flag before anyone else even spawns in, including wake, no matter how fast you can spawn there is always someone faster. also a jet can get between the 2 uncaps amazingly fast on zatar, either that, hacker, or redtag bug... you may never know

There's a big difference between a bug, glitch or cheat!

When you looked at the guy climbing the ladder did his name show up in red?

If not the he was already dead, if it did you sure it was his name and not someone else and then you got shot by the guy in question???

There is no hack out there for people disappearing, if there was you would hear about it a lot more.

More likely lag or the person was dead or someone else completely.

There is hacks in BF2 but what annoys me is people crying wolf (or hack in this case) every time something weird happens and gets people thinking negatively about the game. I've got a 1000 hours in this game and if i cried hack everytime i hit someone and it didnt register or something weird happens it would just be thread after thread of crying hack!! Welcome to BF2
